Question 6 month diet history

So I just found out today that my insurance company IS requiring a 6 month documented diet history. I know from reading about other people's experiences that some have this requirement, BUT.... I didn't think I did. I contacted my ins co when I 1st started considering WLS to find out the requirements & they did not mention this. Now I have my 1st appointment with the surgeon on 10/5/09 & the registration people say my ins co does require this documentation & I need to make an appt with my PCP asap to get started. So.... my question is: Will I really need to have 6 months documentation or does the surgeon just require you to lose XX amount of pounds prior to surgery?? I'm a little disappointed, but I know I need to have other tests & stuff done in the mean time, so I hope the next 6 mo pass by quickly!

If your insurance requires a six month diet, then yes, it's really six months.

Hi Crystal,
The same thing happened to me. Then I went to my PCP for 6 months, and she had not made the right kind of documentation. I would suggest asking the person in the surgeon's office who handles the WLS stuff who they recommend to go to see. I went for another 6 months, this time to a dietician that has a great track record, and I finally got approved. The insurance company tries to stall you every chance they get!
Good luck!
