try Pacificare/united health care they are very easy to deal with- just make sure this is on the policy!

What are your stats? Height/weight, etc? Why are you trying to go the insurance route with no prior insur coverage, why not self-fund it?

I'm 5'4, 270lbs, I have insurance now, Blue cross blue shield healthkeepers but they denied me. I'm wondering if I upgrade to PPO they'll cover it. I cant cover it on my own unless I can find a doctor who will take a payment plan, so far I've only found one doctor who wants $13,500 upfront for the surgery. I cant afford that right now. you looki great by the way!

What was the reason for the denial? Can't you appeal?

I have Anthem Blue Cross PPO and I was approved quickly. I don't know if they have wls on an individual plan. You'd have to check.

Where are you? I know of doctors in the L.A. area that take payment plans.

Be careful which insurance you decide to go with and make sure you really look at the deductible and out of pocket expenses closely. By the time I pay my deductible and out of pocket expenses, I will have paid for 3/4 of my surgery myself. I have a Blue Shield PPO for the state of California. My out of pocket is $6000 and my deductible is another $3000. The surgeon that I am going to offers payment plans and also offers a credit card called "Care Credit." It is a credit card that I have had for years without knowing it could be used for such things. I plan on putting most of my expense on the credit card. It may be cheaper to look into paying for the surgery yourself. I know that it sounds good to think that the insurance companies may pick up most of the tab....and many will, but others wont. Just do some research and dont forget to talk to some of the other insurance companies out there. You dont have to settle.....and GOOD LUCK! Hope you find what you are looking for!!
