Default Anyone Below 40 BMI ??

Hey,
I was hoping to get some advice from others who have a BMI below 40. I have sleep apnea and hyperlipidema and pre-diabetes. I DONT have insulin dependent diabetes or High blood pressure. I have BCBS of Alabama for teachers. PEHIP. My sleep apnea is severe at 36 RDI, but I read in my policy BCBS states severe as RDI of more than 50. My doctor will write a letter if I am denied. I started my 6 mo May 21st. Anyone have any advice?

I think I saw on another thread that you are a 39.5 BMI. With those comorbidities I'd say there's a good chance you may still be approved, just keep massaging the system and it'll work out for you. Make sure you have all of your documentation lined up (any additional info would be good probably, too).

I have Kaiser so the system is a little different, I don't know if insurance companies want to see picturs and a letter from yourself or not, but I'd say it couldn't hurt to show you are ready for surgery. (I had a binder organized with pictures, food/photo/written journals, the research I have done, and the other diets I have tried. The doctor didn't need to look at it, but if he wanted something more I can't see that would hurt.

I'd say that you have a very good chance of getting approved also.

Good luck with the 6 month diet plan...it can be challenging.

My former roommate's BMI was 37, but she was approved because of co-morbidities.

But call, call, call.

And, when the school year started, she looked at all the plans and changed to one that would allow the surgery with BMI below 40 and co-morbidities. (We are both teachers and our county offers several plans.)
