Default approved to see the surgeon

I got approved to see Dr. Callery last thursday and my appt with him is on 4/20. I was just wondering if getting approved to see the surgeon means anything. I keep going back and forth but I figured someone on here might know. Do they just approve everyone to see the surgeon or did someone actually look at my records and make a decision?
Thanks for the help!!

Hi there, welcome...for me, all I needed was a referral to see the surgeon. Which meant I had to go to my PCP (primary care physician) and she put the referral through. I have a BCBS HMO, which requires referrals for everything. Good luck!

Well, getting a referral to the surgeon is half the battle...now you need to talk with Dr C and his staff, they will determine if you are a good candidate or not, at your first appointment they will give you a list of tests that need to be done, and when they have all that, they will submit you to insurance for approval. Getting the referral to Dr C means your primary doc think's you're a good candidate. You're on your way!
