Has anyone gone through kaiser for the GBS. Is so what are the steps after orientation?

Default some info

My friend has kaiser and we are in norhtern CA. She went to her PCP and asked about GB. HE said they do cover it if you meet the requirments. She meets all those so he sent her a refferal to start the process. He also let her know that it takes about 7-12months process before you will get the surgery, and if you miss 1 appt you will be dropped and have to start over. It seems like they only use certain surgeons. So it took 2 weeks before she went to the intial orentation. then they called her 5 weeks later to set up the next appt. thats where she is at right now and she just had her appt yesterday so I am not sure what was said then.So the first step would be to see your PCP, also do a search on this forum and just put in kaiser and a lot of info will come up.
Good luck!

Kaiser... After the orien. you wait to get placed in a class. it could take up to three, four months to get placed depending on the load of patients. Then you do the 6 month classes. and then your paperwork is sent off to the surgeon and its in his hands, his schedule. I started my classes in Jan. 08 and had surgery Oct. 08. 10 months of waiting. But let me tell you its soooooo worth it. which kaiser do you go to?

Smile kaiser insurance

i went through kaiser in fremont. originally started in manteca. there are only 2 kaisers locations that perform the surgery, one in fremont and the other i think in oakland? I took me about 1 yr to finally get a date. I was at the point where i got to see the dr and the nurse said he had to review the file and they would get back to me. it took 2 to 3 months and all of a sudden they called me one night and wanted to schedule surgery for next week. I did schedule it 1/26 instead of 1/13. Kaiser in fremont was excellent. The only thing I didn't agree was when the surgeon came to see me the day of surgery he said everything was good and I could go home tomarrow. I was really worried, i was supposed to stay at least 2 days. Hope this helps.

I see you are in Southern California. I went through Kaiser Fremont, as well, up here in NorCal. I believe that we have different requirements up here -- in SoCal you have to do the 6 month classes, but we have to lose 10% of our body weight, but I'm not sure if Southern California has that requirement on top of the classes.

Anyway, the process I went through was the big Orientation class first, then several weeks later was the day of super-long appointments (4 hours) where you meet with the surgeon, dietician, get weighed in, etc. Then you have to go off and get all the tests done such as blood tests, chest x-ray, EKG, psychiatrist, and you also have to start losing the 10% (for me it was 33 pounds). Somewhere in there you have to fill out a ton of forms showing things like your dieting history, and I think we even had a little written quiz about the info in the giant binder they gave us. I also had to attend a support group meeting.

After losing the 10%, I got the call to schedule the big pre-op appointment and the actual surgery date. I freaked and asked for the latest possible appointment she had, which was 6 weeks later. The pre-op appointment required more blood tests, the offical weigh-in to see if I made goal weight, more dietician stuff. Then my surgery was 3 days later.

My timeline was that I got the first referral from my PCP in May 2006, had Orientation in November 2006, day of long appointments December 2006, then I got sick and stalled on losing my 10%, finally called in my goal weight at the end of July 2007, and had surgery September 2007.

Good luck to you!

Nyn, I too went to Kaiser Fremont. In fact, I go see Dr Hahn for my 2 week follow up this Friday since my Doc, Dr. Dennon is in PARIS on vacation. <sigh> must be nice. lol... Glad my surgery could contribute to his vacation! lol

So is there a difference in why yours was so short pwynn. I have orientation class on 4-23-09. After that I will see if they say yes that I can start the classes. The nice thing is if I have to lose 10% I can do that. For some reason that is all I can do. Then gain it back.

Hey no problem. This is why awhile back we had started a whole thread devoted to TTForum lingo.

ONEderland is when you lose enough weight that your weight now starts with a ONE. So when you hit a weight of 199 you are now in onederland!

Century is when you lose 100 pounds.
Second century is when you lose 200 pounds.

Twoterville is when you lose enough weight that your weight starts with a TWO, so that is when you weigh 299.
