i posted a response to kaiser. Nyn you are right. I just forgot all the prelim things i had to go through. it did take about 12-13 mos for a surgery date. dr hahn is my surgeon too. i just went to my 6wk post op. everything is good. i tried chicken one night and omg i had the most horrible pain since the surgery. have not tried it again. just sticking to tuna, fish, cottage cheese. i did not to the last stage. hopefully it will go smoothly.

I dont think so actually most people from my class had the surgery before me. I had to stop chewing tobacco first. I should have had my surgery the first part of Oct

Fitgal,
Thanks for the info. what happens in the classes? Do you starting taking all the vitamins and drinking protein? Are the classes on the same day every week? Sorry for all the questions I am new to this - I have my orientation scheduled for May 21st, just wondering what to expect. Some people on here talk about approval, with Kaiser if we were refered to the orientation from the preventive med. doctor - does that mean we are approved or will there be additional approval needed? What about the nut and pysch appointments - do I call the 800 number to schedule those - tell them its for WLS or do they take care of that at the orientation?

What Kaiser do you go to? The process varies from region to region. I went to Kaiser fontana for the classes and had surgery in Temecula.
In the classes you learn everything there is to know about the surgery. They go through the emotional and phsyical parts of it. They teach you about exercise and eating right. Seriously....everything you can think of. If you're like me then you already knew ALL of that stuff. I just never did any of it!! You are correct. If your doctor sends you to the orientation technically you are aproved from an insurance stand point. The surgeon could always refuse you for other reasons, but its rare. You wont need a nutrition appointment, thats included in the 6 months of classes. The pysch is done AFTER you meet with the surgeon. He sends you to his pysch Doc. Its a long process but totally worth it. I thank Kaiser for the long process because when I had my surgery I was SOOOO prepared and ready. Good Luck!

Thanks! It's all starting to make sense. I am going to Kaiser Riverside - so we are neighbors. So, how are things going since your surgery? I am trying to learn as much as I can too, been reading alot on here and watched a few You Tube videos, I am still nervous, but I guess that's normal. How long were you in the hospital and how long before you went back to work?

We are neighbors! Things since surgery have been awesome. I've lost 140 lbs since surgery. Life is grand! The best thing you can do right now is read read read and talk to as many people as you can. Ask every question you can think of. thats why this site is soooo great. these people will answer anything without making you feel dumb. I was in the hospital two nights. it sucked. that was the worst part of the whole experience. the hospital I was at suckd for care. BUT my surgeon is THE MAN. I had no complications. I was out of work for 3 weeks. I could of gone back at 2 but I wanted 3. That last week was hell, I was bored and depressed ready to go back to work. If you ever want to get toether let me know! PM me anytime.

Fitgirl,
So do you think you will get plastic surgery? My doctor was telling me that if the excess skin is causing a rash he can refer me for surgery and it would be covered. I was watching a few videos on You Tube and heard of a few people who did surgery after the WLS because the excess skin.

I will be getting some plastic surgery. I started out very large so the extra skin is a medical problem more than vanity. Kaiser does cover the panniculicomy (sp?). Thats the removal of extra belly skin without doing a tummy tuck which is tightening of the muscles. Extra skin is different for everyone. Age, size, genes all come into effect. Just gotta wait and see how your skin shrinks.
