Yeah but I think each surgeons office is different. Not all recommend optifast so its not a must. They get free samples and many other deals for pitching certain vitamins and shakes. My surgeons office recommends Biariatric Advantage vitamins, Even gives samples and has bottles setting around on their desks. I'm not buying those. There way to expensive. I'm taking the beriatric vitamins Celebrate. They are cheaper. Not cheap but cheaper and they have auto ship and free shipping the way I do it. Not everyone can efford it.

My surgeon also recommends Bariatic Advantage protein shakes but like Tess said it is WAY too expensive. I am looking for bargains and I am all over the place. So with all these different samples, this works for me. When it comes to protein shakes all of them will shrink your liver as long as you are losing weight. I think each surgeon office have to do a sale pitch for any products that's listed in their office or they support. My surgeon has bariatic advantage everywhere in the office and so I knew the sale pitch was coming. When I start asking about other protein shakes and telling him what I knew all he could do is smile and say "you're right and you know your stuff" . I did my homework before I met my surgeon because for some reason they tend to not tell you everything. To be honest I learned whole LOT of stuff on TT that my surgeon did not even tell me, but when I have my pre op office visit I have a whole lot of questions for him.

Woohoo Dep!!!!! I know once you did that it made it more real that this is going to happen. Can you tell me how much was your co payment? I did not realized that you had to pay anything to the hospital before the surgery. I think I better get on the phone with my insurance company.

Yeah, I would go the cheapest way possible if I were you, but I don't have an option we are required to do the optifast. I know it will only be for 4 weeks and I am ok with the cost. My surgeons office is in the same building as a Nutrition Solutions store. Yeah, it is a money market but I really don't care, because I want this surgery. The money that I will spend on protein supplements will come from the money we usually spend going out on the weekends.

Yea for you!!!! I was so relieved when I got mine paid off it was such a relief when I made my last payment. I had to have mine paid off before the end of my 6th month diet history.
I have an appointment with my surgeon on June 22nd, and then my file will be sent to the insurance company. When I get my approval then I will get a surgery date. I am still looking for mine to be the end of August.

I had to pay $800 up front to the hospital. It is due 1 month before my surgery. I have already got it put aside...

Tess, I am like you and hope that I do not have to pay anything. My coordinator has not said anything and I am not either. I am going to start saving just in case. I just do not want any surprises. Dep thanks for bringing this up and sharing. IT's so AMAZIN how I learned something new EVERYDAY on TT.

During my orientation, they suggested contacting the insurance company members services and ask what your hospital co-pay is and they should be able to tell you. It ranges from none to $500.00 before you go to $50.00 a night - at least this is through Kaiser.
