Hello everyone! My name is Angie and I have started the process for wls. I have been a lurker for a while and now that I am actually doing this, I would really like to be a part of your forum. Especially since it is for people doing the 6 month diet.
I hope it is not too late to join, I know you all have been doing this for a feww months. But I really need support and will definetly give it. My ins. doesn't requir the 6 months, but when I spoke to my dietician, she said that I had horrible eating habits and that she would not give a letter of recomendation until I took 6 months of dietician counceling. I was so upset. Not only because of the 6 month thing, but because she looked and talked to me like she was disgusted with me.
Now normally, I would just assume that I was wearing my heart on my sleeve and took it the wrong way, but my mom was with me and even she was upset with the way she was acting. OF COURSE I don't eat well. That's why I doing this! I need help!!
Sorry, I am just so upset right now. Iwas wondering, has anyone else had to do the 6 month because of your dietician, not ins? Now I am really scared that I am going to do all of this, and still not be allowed to do it.
My first appt is next Fri. 6 months seem like forever away!
Thanks for listening. (reading)
I just look at the pictures on this forum, and I get a know in my throuat. I sooooo bad want to be an "after". As I am sure you all feel the same way. Hopefully this time next year, we will all be the "afters"!!

Angie, your dietician may have good reason to want you to do several months of counseling before getting surgery, I don't know, but if you feel she is not treating you with respect, I would find a new dietician.

Hey There Darling! I can totally relate. I went to my 1st PCP that I had for almost 2 years and said I heard my insurance will cover a WLS. And he is a triathlon guy mind you. And said “Well yeah we can do this 6 months PCP check in…but you need to run!” and I was like me run…what are you talking about? He belittled me I left crying into my hubbys arms. So I said Okay I know I “need” the 6 month diet. I need to learn what to do. But I need supportive drs around me. So I called the Surgeons office I was looking towards and asked if they knew of any PCPs that sent people to them. They gave me a list of people and I went to the first 1 that had an appointment avx not even a week later. I am so thankful I did this. Because in this PCP visit he saw a bullet point I wasn’t sure about which was the waiving of the 6 month diet. Called my insurance to get details and I’m ready for surgery now. If you live in a big city. I would call the place you want to have the WLS and find a dietician they have used. Just my 2 cents. I am not saying “bypass” lol no pun intended the 6 month diet. But find supportive people!!!

Fist off let me say that it is never to late to join us Angie. Welcome aboard. I have a strong feeling this thread will be here long after we have passed through and moved on to the "beyond the six months thread' New generations will pass through together and meet us on the other side.

Second, If you insurance company doesn't require the six months tell that dietitians to say what ever she wants. The dietitian's get paid for us six monthers. They of coarse want us to have to do it.

We all have bad eating habits or we wouldn't be here. It made me mad just reading about the way she acted.
If it boils down to you having to do the six months because of her then what ever you do don't give her your money.

Just about all hospital have dietitian on staff that can follow you and will know what they need to do. Some are even free.
Most are cheaper then the clinics anyways.
What ever you do. See a different dietitian.

Then, if she is affiliated with your surgeon make sure you let your surgeon know how she acted when you speak to him. She may not be there long.
She literally holding your surgery hostage and that is just not ethical.

I will say, "in my opinion" everyone should do the six months and it should be required. Its not though. Its not up to me. Its not up to her.
Everyone needs that time to learn and maintain the surgery. I'm actually glad I was not aloud to just jump into this thing will-nilly.

Iv learned so much and will be so much better prepared then i would have been if I didn't do the six months.
The six months fly by (wink) and you can do it with us but if you don't have to thats fine too. Its not up to her. Its not her business to decide this for you and also be rude on top of it. Id actually go through a whole different surgeons office If I had too

Thanks so much for all of your input. I agree, I should go ahead and do the 6 months so that I have that info to move forward. I do need that. I was just put off by her behavior. And she is with my surgeons office. The good news is, she is not the one that is going to be seeing me. It is some other Dr that is with the same hospital. I am getting it done in Indianapolis, so I am sure I could find somewhere else. But I figure, I am doing this for me, and I do need to learn the right way, again, for me, so I am just gonna suck it up and serve my time. I do hope you are right and time flies by!!
Just got done watching Biggest Loser....how inspiring!
Well I hope every one has a great day tomorrow
