I'm not sure exactly all the hoops I have to get through....so far there are mandatory seminars and the nutrition counsel and I've had to get all my tests up to date (mammogram, pelvic, EKG, Echo, etc.) and a lot of blood work. I am hoping I do not have to do 6 months diet since my PCP already submitted a statement of weight loss for me from Oct. 2007 until now. My GB doc asked me to lose 10 lbs before surgery. I have to shrink my liver and get my diabetes A1C level to 7.5 before surgery as well.

As far as motivation goes, i guess the main thing is just plain tired of being fat!! And now that my health is getting worse, it is just time to do something! My mom has just had the lapband done (Dec. 31) so she is also my motivation - well, we will motivate each other!! I have been doing really good on my diabetes diet and some days I think I can just do this on my own, but then I will smell something while driving and the urges just get to me, so in the long run I feel I will need more than just will power to get to my goals!!!!

I hear you on that. Just plain ol’ tired to. I have a really supportive hubby thank goodness for that. Since we are high school sweethearts. He sure knew me in the “Lighter” days lol so I really am just motivating myself to get this done right now that my insurance is saying they will approve it as long as I do what they ask. Why not saves me almost $23K later on if I choose to wait.

Nice you have your mom in the “same” boat as you. Lucky duck!

We're gonna do this!!!! :-) 6 month diet, here we come!!!!!

Hi and welcome to TT. There are a lot of great ppl here who can answer most any questions you may have and believe me there will be many! I wanted to offer some advice for those who are just starting out on the 6 month dr supervised diet. Usually when you go into see you pcp, the nurse will ask you what your there for. Make sure that she writes on the page that you are there for your scheduled monthly visit for bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery. It's very important to do this. Also add that you are following what ever exercise program your pcp has you on. If you leave it for the dr to add it may not get done. This way the insurance comp cant say that your pcp did not state that the visits were for wls. I learned this the hard way!!
I am still post op as you can tell by my sig and stats I have been on this journey a while. Next month will be a yr. It doesn't take that long for most ppl. I had and insurance change and now I am waiting for a new set of vacation days to come April 1st.
Best of luck to you all! Keep us posted as you go!

What insurance do you have or are you doing personal pay? What surgery are you wanting?

Oh my goodness great advice thank you very much. My PCP has me on Weight Watchers and then checking in with him Once/Month! The nurse is around my age and really nice so I am going to print those lil tips off right now and make sure I put it in my wallet so I remember!
Thanks again!

Any info is always appreciated!

I'm starting my six months too. I go see my surgeon Friday and then the ball will roll. The place that I am going to for the surgery really has on staff everything that I will need to prepare. The dietitian, the phyc, The physical therapist. I'm so glad. I have to pay 500 up front for all that but at least i know they know what to do. Iv head stories of PCP's not doing it the way the insurance company wanted it. Bad handwriting. Those people had to do it all over again. I don't mean to scare you just make sure that who ever it is that is supervising your 6 months has done this thing before. Make sure they know exactly what your insurance requires. I'm not taking any chances. I'm paying the extra 150 for the dietitian to monitor mine at the hospital where I'll be having my surgery. She works with all their other bariatric patients so she is experienced in dealing with the insurance companies.

Nice! Glad you are getting your monies worth. Keep us posted with anything that happens! I had that option as well I am in an all “inclusive” but unfortunately the place where I have elected to have my surgery is 3 ½ hours away. So I have to deal with the PCP just b/c they are closer. I just had my intake for the Psych and everything seemed to go great. I have a scheduled meeting with a PA on 03/03 so that is almost over. I go in and weigh in at WW tomorrow as part of my PCP plan for the 6 month.

Wow, that is I long drive. Mine is two hours. Its only once a month so I'll be fine. Sense I'm no where near the surgery date I'm going to hold off on everything else but the dietitian and 6 month diet.
I have a cruise I have to pay for first. lol. My son is getting married and thats my gift to him and his new bride. Hopefully the clinic will let me hold off on the 500 and the rest of the visits until I'm into the supervised diet for 3 months. Not like I can do anything anyways until the diet is over. The rest shouldn't take to long. Thats will give me the time to pay the cruise off. The dietitian is 150 before the 500 for the rest of what they offer. If thy dont let me things are gonna be tight for a while.
