I cant imagine going through all this again. I'm addicted to sugar. I'll get over that quick enough. lol
Tess I'm not sure if your Humana plan has the same clause as mine but it might be something worth asking your patient advocate about at your surgeon's office. I know mine does because I requested a copy of the bariatric coverage from the insurance company. My coverage was explained to me by the bariatric nurse case manager at the insurance company. The insurance company also recommended that I get the lap RNY since my BMI is greater than 50. My patient advocate/surgeon said that's not an absolute because you have to look at the individual and not just a number.

When I first started looking into the bariatric surgeries this year, I went to a lapband seminar. The surgeon told the story a lady who wasn't losing weight and they were trying to figure out why. She had to get something out of her purse, and a big bag of M&Ms fell out. He sent her to see the nutritionist. I thought to myself I'd be that lady if I had the lapband. I have a bad sweet tooth.
Oh wow Cheryl, that's something I'll make sure to tell people to look out for in their policies!

Ready are you ok? I was sure you'd hear something today! I have a suggestion to help you occupy your mind. Has your surgeon's office given you a copy of their wls manual.... a special booket they've put together for their wls patients? Try reading and memorizing the booklet. It'll give you something to focus on.

Megan it was in the small print in my copy of the coverage. Yes, it very very important piece of info. It'll make you think twice about which surgery to chose.

It's definitely important because some surgeons emphasize you can always switch (yeah no biggie )

This is crazy and scary...I remember hearing one of the nurses talking to a patient at Kaiser the man had WLS and he was starting to gain weight back and asked her if they could redo it and she said if it is a lifestyle issue - like if your just not trying no they won't, but if your stomach stretched or something they may consider it...I don't think I would want to go through it twice. Joy I seen you refer to a manual that your doc. gave you in regards to WLS - is there anyway you can upload it or email it me - I never got anything like that. Thanks.

I'll have to look back and check on the 900 calories I thought it was really low... Maybe 1200 is the reduced number. If I'm exercising 1200 is unrealistic let alone 900. (My bodybugg tells me to shoot for an 850 deficit and I usually end up with about 1,000 but it's usually still me eating 1500+ calories )

I was really nervous about meeting w/ my PCP and the doc in charge because I thought they'd deny me but I've been really fortunate. Hope it rubs off on you!
Hey Ladies,

So I am getting worried about Ms. Ready...anyone hear from her. I cannot even imagine how stressed she must be feeling.

So I did go to the doctor today for my 6-week follow-up and I can't believe I have lost 20 pounds...he was so happy. It was pretty good, he ordered some labs (TSH?, Thamine, and Vitnamin D Level). I have to go back to see him in six weeks to see how I'm doing. I think by the time this is over me and him will be like best friends....LOL cause I have to see him every six weeks and I haven't even started my six months yet.

Well, I hope everyone is doing okay...and have a safe and fun holiday weekend.

Jewel I was told by my patient advocate that we cannot share the info in the booklet. I'm still in the pre-op stage so I need to do what the doctor says so he'll do my surgery. I'm sorry.
