I think mine sort of went backwards, I had gone to the Opti fast orientation many years back, but never did it and just kind of went off on my own, then just recently is when I made the appointment and seen the Preventive Medicine Doc. so I think I am on the same track. So, what are you supposed to do until Sept. did they give you any instructions?

I'm just supposed to start losing. They're using 248 as my base weight even though honestly that weight was in the afternoon with serious water retention.
Make sure you have a documented weight on file with Kaiser before you start losing and the program doctor or coordinator have given you the go ahead to start losing. Sounds ridiculous but you don't want to take a chance that you drop 15 pounds and be told they are using that newer lower weight and want you to lose 10% off of that.
I've been trying to eat better. I'm always hungry and know that for the first part of Options (down here at least) they want you eating 1200 calories the first half an 900 the second half I'm trying to make the more nutritionally sound decisions and am starting to exercise and do strength training. I'd assume if you're exercising every day you would get more calories?
I think they're really trying to get you to think about head hunger vs. real hunger.

Hey all,
I hope everyone had a great day. My day was intresting because of stupid people at work. I have less than a week before surgery. I'm so scared that I won't eat right or that I will eat to fast. So much is going through my little head. It's like every step of the way my mind was going crazy and this is no difference. I try not to talk about it because others don't understand but OMG.
Ok just had to get all of that out. How is everyone else?

Yeah, I know distinguishing between the head hunger and the actual hunger is tough. I struggle with that now. I have heard of the 1200 cals. from reading online, but not the 900 cals. I really hope they give us ideas of what to eat, because it is hard. I have been trying to watch what I eat too - smaller portions and less carbs. My doc. gave me an appetite surpressant which I think has helped - it definately gives me more energy. So, I called the Preventive Medicine people today to see where I am on the waitlist and the lady was like well it is going to be three to six months from the date of your orientation and that's all I can tell you (very rude), but I kept being really nice and then she was like oh let me look at my computer.."well it looks like you were scheduled to see the doc. for a follow-up last month" I was like OMG...I thought he told me he wanted to see me back in 6 months not 6 weeks...so all I have to say is thank goodness I called. Now I am scheduled to see him tomorrow... I am definately anxious to see what is going to happen at this appointment. This is my third appointment with him...the first was was like well Julia your eating wrong, the second one (about a year later) was like have you ever thought about WLS...., let's see what the third one will be...??? Let me know if you have any good food suggestions because I never quite know what to eat.

Ready, I hope you hear something soon. That would go great with the July 4th celebration and fireworks.
Hi to all the newbies. TT is a great site with lots of info and nice people.
I've been sick with a summer cold. I had a fever Saturday and Sunday. I still went to my adenosine stress test on Tuesday all congested and coughing. I passed it. My ekg, blood pressure, heartrate, treadmill test and pictures of my heart were all fine. I did have to wait longer(2 hours) to begin the testing because the dye was taking a long time to clear out of my liver. The tech said it was because I'm female, young and have a healthy liver. I did get a special treat because the dye was took a long time to leave my liver. Instead of getting a bag of animal crackers to eat after the treadmill test, I had to eat a fatty meal so I went to Vernon's and had a chopped beef sandwich and french fries I had brought an EAS Strawberry protein shake with me, but there wasn't enough fat in it to get the dye out of my liver. I started back on my diet when I had my next meal.

Humana 1 bariatric surgery lifetime clause
Tess I'm glad you're having the lap RNY. Humana (PPO) has a 1 bariatric surgery per lifetime clause in their coverage. That's why I'm opting for the lap RNY. I think I'd be a lapband failure. When I first started looking into the bariatric surgeries this year, I went to a lapband seminar. The surgeon told the story a lady who wasn't losing weight and they were trying to figure out why. She had to get something out of her purse, and a big bag of M&Ms fell out. He sent her to see the nutritionist. I thought to myself I'd be that lady if I had the lapband. I have a bad sweet tooth.

I cant imagine going through all this again. I'm addicted to sugar. I'll get over that quick enough. lol

Hope it went well! I had a tone of info for the doctor in charge of the program and he didn't look at it really at all. I think he got the sense that I've done my research and am ready to make the commitment.
I'll have to look back and check on the 900 calories I thought it was really low... Maybe 1200 is the reduced number. If I'm exercising 1200 is unrealistic let alone 900. (My bodybugg tells me to shoot for an 850 deficit and I usually end up with about 1,000 but it's usually still me eating 1500+ calories )
I was really nervous about meeting w/ my PCP and the doc in charge because I thought they'd deny me but I've been really fortunate. Hope it rubs off on you!
