Tess, Thanks! I know it will happen - just wish I could already be an official 6 monther -lol. So, your getting pretty close huh? I bet you are excited and nervous. Do you feel ready for the life changes? I think that is one of the things that scares me most - will I be able to eat right, keep up with all the vitamins, and how will the people at work react, as I seem to spend more time there than at home. Well, I hope all is going well - your in my thoughts!

thank you for your reply! i am an np too and we are all about guidelines. its crazy.
i'm pretty upset and i am wondering if he just wants to make the bucks OR if he just feels better liability wise if he sees what he is dealing with himself before he actually does the snips on my insides!
no one at the gi place said i had a problem during my procedure, and i got my letter from that gi doc saying i was good for bariatric surgery. the first time i heard there was a problem was from the surgeon. so i am sitting here going why make me do it again? the gi doc cleared me. and of course - i will have to take OFF for it again! i don't have that much PTO and i want to save mine for my surgery!!!
how the heck did you survive an UGI without anesthesia!!! you are superwoman. you must have major control of your gag reflex and your ability to calm yourself!!!!
thanks for your reply. have a good one.

ready - you are a sweetheart!
we are almost there. i am glad that there is SOME light at the end of the tunnel.
i'm going to call and bother them tomorrow and ask them if they just need more info from the GI doc or I will call the GI docs nurse myself and ask what is going on. i will really hate to repeat when i have already paid for one and i was told it was all ok!!!
i will be a mess in august. i promise. i am just trying not to think about it too much right now. my goal is to have surgery by labor day.

lol - oh gosh I'd have to kill someone if that was true. **20 weeks** (actually 24 weeks)

So, did you already start the classes or are you not scheduled to start until September? I thought I read that you were already attending...sorry sometimes its hard to keep up with everyone.

I got a full runaround all over Kaser regarding WLS so when I got to the program coordinator she insered me into the July class pending program approval. (I had been scheduled for surgery out of network and it fell through 2 weeks prior to surgery and I had done a lot of research on my own).
Long story: while I was going through the porcess w/ the other surgeons I was still trying to get answers from Kaiser. My PCP didn't really know the program so she ordered some labs which I took to the other surgeons who needed other labs. Since my PCP is PT on medical leave I couldn't get in to see her so I went to an outside lab and had other tests the surgeons needed. Then I found the surgery fell through and then I found the Options Coordinator and got scheduled for the Options and Weight Loss Orientation classes which I attended in May as well. Basically my PCP thought she referred me to the Options program after she ran certain tests, but I had to go to the seminars first so I missed April's and had to go to May.
So I went to the Orientations, finally got Kaiser to let me see another PCP for my referral into Options and had my interview/appt with one of the docs in charge last Friday. I am set to start July 13th whcih I am excited about. Apparently starting in September the classes will be 20 weeks but for now it is still 24 weeks so at least that will be good for you if you're scheduled for September on you will be done a month earlier than usual.
Sounds like we're about at the same step except I'm scheduled? What area are u in? I really hope I have people as well informed as you and me in my group! I'm a little nervous

Wow! You sure did have to jump through a lot of hoops. I do like Kaiser but sometimes it can be crazy especially when they have all these different docs and nurse practioners, etc involved I think it gets confusing. Yeah, I am nervous too - yeah it sounds like we are in the same step. I am just waiting to be scheduled and I am hoping it is not going to take four months to start the classes like they said at the orientation. I am going through the Riverside Kaiser and you? I have not done any labs yet - so this kind of concerns me. Basically, how it went is I scheduled an appointment with the doc. in the Preventive Medicine area and then when I started telling him that I would like to loose weight, blah blah blah and he asked me if I have ever considered WLS and I told him well sort of but it is kind of scary and he suggested I do the six month options classes and then I will have up to a year to change my mind if I decide the surgery is not for me. I am supposed to go back and see him in six months, but no labs...should I be doing labs? Goodness gracious - we need like some sort of checklist of all things they want us to do. Well, I am so happy that I found someone to chat with that we are in the same step...I look forward to sharing many more stories...I'm Julia by the way. Thanks for all the info.

Yep. takes two weeks to build up in your system to be effective. I been taking it for a couple months already. I'm really not sure its helping or not. I guess I would know for sure if I stop taking it. lol. I'm still stressing just not dwelling on it. I haven't heard from my boy. They should have left The Grand Cayman Islands today. I pray he got to enjoy it, We pick them up Saturday Evening. I swear if he comes off the plane in a wheel chair I'll cry. lol. Ready any news yet? Pear, glad your back. welcome to all you Newbies to our little six month thread. Your going to love it here

I'm through the Orange Health Pavillion. I know there's a difference between Kaiser southern CA and northern CA but I think our programs would be the same or pretty similar.
Have you been the Options seminar and the Weight Loss seminar (they talk about Opti Fast and their other initiatives)? Down here you have to do both. After that you go to your PCP for an official referral to the Options program and I'm pretty sure that's when they do the labs that the program wants (blood, urine, stool, EKG).
After that you talk with the Options program coordinator and meet with one of the docs who oversees the program.
Do you have the Options booklet from the seminar? That should have the process in there (at least mine does).
Hope this helps! I'd call the program coordinator if you have his/her number to make sure everything's all set.

Hey, Thanks yes it is helpful. I would think they should be pretty much the same. I did attend the Options orientation, but the other was not required. I didn't recieve a booklet, just a piece of paper that kind of describes the program and the qualifications for WLS. I am definately going to call. I think mine sort of went backwards, I had gone to the Opti fast orientation many years back, but never did it and just kind of went off on my own, then just recently is when I made the appointment and seen the Preventive Medicine Doc. so I think I am on the same track. So, what are you supposed to do until Sept. did they give you any instructions?
