Could I be the wicked witch of the west.... the bad one? I saw the musical Wicked and loved her character, Elphaba, in it.

Hi girls -
I should have mentioned earlier that I did WW on and off for 2 years... it does work for me if I stick to it. But there is something frustrating about calculating the points. Seems that if I already know exactly how many points something is, I do better, but when I have to improvise, I end up falling off the wagon. I'm back now to the calories/fat thing, you know, simple: eat less, move more. It is kind of working, now if I could just will the pounds off faster... hmm.
I'm taking a group of 32 students and some parents/other adults to Dublin, London, and yes, Paris. Being a French teacher, I get the opportunity to travel pretty often (every other year with students, off years with my hubby). This is actually my 9th trip to Paris, I think. Hubby and I did Ireland last summer, Belgium in '06, and have done Switzerland, Bavaria-Germany, Austria, Monaco and Italy with other student trips. Its a pretty awesome perk, I have to say. I'm excited to go to England, as I've never been and we'll go to Stonehenge and actually...we're seeing Wicked on London's West End. I do love Paris, and always look forward to arriving there. We leave on Tuesday... so you'll be without me for 10 days!
Hit the gym for another 400 calories tonight! Wahoo! BTW - my nut tells me that machines over-estimate your burned calories by about 10%, so if you workout on a machine that tracks your weight and tells you the calories you've burned, you should put in 10 pounds less than what you actually weigh.
Hope everyone had a fabulous day!

Oh Carotgirl take me with you.Please. Of course I'd have to relearn French. In high school, I took french my sophomore, junior and senior years. You're like Ms. Caddell, my french teacher. I loved her class. She'd go to Europe every summer vacation. Do you ever cook for your students? Each year Ms. Caddell would have us go over the to home-ec classroom and we'd make crepes or chicken cordon-bleu. I still make the chicken cordon bleu but without the rich sauce and I use swiss cheese instead of bleu cheese.

I had surgery scheduled for last month originally (no 6 mo diet) but switched providers and will be doing 6 mo through Kaiser's Options plan. As a result I've been trying some of the bariatric shakes I've ordered and they taste good, but they don't fill fabulous pre-op me up! I've been drinking them without ice, I like the ready to drink (RTD) ones. Maybe pre-op I'll blend it with ice to make it more filling.
Is anyone else going through Kaiser? Also, has anyone else joined WW? I'm really not sure if there's an official weigh in to my weekly classes and I really like that. I have a Bodybugg so I'd still count calories and not points (it really is all the same anyways), but like the accountability..and okay yes I like the stars they give out too!

Meagan you finally join, WOOHOO!!!!I am so happy to see your post. I think I bragged enough about the support on this thread. This thread is very much "LIVE" and "ROCKIN" and you will learn about many folks experiences here. Just knowing your surgery was scheduled and now you have to do the 6months is really a bummer. However I can share with you that the 6 month diet is the BEST thing that has happen to me. This period has given me the knowledge and awareness of what lies ahead. Coming in early this year I had no idea what to expect and honestly I proably would have been depressed. However NOW, I am surely ready for what lies ahead and I know this "TOOL" is going to guide me to success. I know you will do well on your 6 month diet and keep us posted on how you're doing. If you need any support, just want to vent or a HUG we're all here to SUPPORT you. GOOD LUCK and WELCOME to the 6 month family.

It sucks that you have to do the 6 months when you thought you wouldn't but we're glad your here. You'll hear everyone saying the same thing. It gos by so fast and you learn so much. I have joined WW off and on for years. Its worked better for me then anything else. Someone I cant remember who (sorry) said it never did a thing for them. Try it for one week and see. I lost 6 lbs the first week at WW. Unfortunately like every diet I have ever tried it just comes back. It should help you through the 6 months though. Welcome Megan
|
Can you believe this but out of all the diets that's out there I have never tried WW before. I got to a point and said "NO MORE DIETS" so I never tried it. I heard many successes and if it's only 10% of your weight that you have to loose, then it should not be too bad. Wow Tess, yoou loss 6lbs on WW, that's good, maybe I should have tried it after all......Oh well, WLS here I come!!! (lol)

Yeah at the info session people were asking if they could make the pouch a little bigger so they could eat just a bit more than a hardboiled egg sized pouch and I was asking if it was possible to lose too much and when I could start. (Technically you aren't supposed to start until you meet with the doctor officially)[/QUOTE]
No, way I would like my pouch the smallest that it can go. Everything in my mind is SMALL!!!!

Kaiser's a unique beast so it's really not a 6 mo supervised diet per se. We have weekly classes and during those classses you need to lose 10% of your starting body weight. I spoke w/ the doctor in charge of the program at the info session a couple of weeks ago and he said it's okay for me to start losing weight now, they'll take a weight from my chart to use as my beginning weight.
I saw earlier in the thread that you were apprehensive as to whether you could disqualify yourself from surgery by losing too much weight - I was concerned too and the doctor said he prefers people to get to a 35 BMI before surgery to ensure success.
