The whole point of the MD supervised diet is to make sure that you are trying to diet in a healthy and well balanced manner. It's not so much what healthy diet plan you try, weight watchers, south beach, etc, as long as your doctor is making sure you aren't doing anything extreme and monitoring your progress. Let's face it, we have all tried unhealthy and fad diets and look where that got us!!!! Sue

I spoke to an Attorney yesterday due to the fact that I'm having problems with getting approved with my old PCP. Now I'm seeing a new PCP for a 3 month plan, diet supervised...etc.

I told her that my new doctor wants me to meet with a nutritionist for the next 3 months (1 time per month) and he also wants me to join and gym and get documentation from the gym.....daily sign in & outs.

Well the Attorney told me that I DON'T need to see a nutritionist and that all the doctor has to do is note that I'm following (whatever diet I choose) and that I'm keeping a log and turning into my PCP. (that is a relief, I really don't have the money to spend on a nutritionist) The Attorney did tell me that the gym was a good thing to do.....but also not necessary to do. All that needs to be in my PCP's notes is the fact that I'm excerising on my own (i.e. walking around my block, etc.) Personally, I want the documentation from the gym.....that's fine with me.

Most importantly, the Attorney told me to see my doctor once a month for something OTHER THAN WLS and then tie it into the visits.....due to the fact that the insurance company will not pay the doctor if the visit is for WLS only. She said that it WILL NOT hurt any chances of having the WLS done.....and that MOF the insurance companies don't care what you were seen for.....they are ONLY looking for the WLS stuff, that it.
