Default Payment question

I am interested in getting some feedback as to how patients are funding their operations.

Thanks!

I had BlueCross HMO at the time I got the surgery and it paid for everything. Although I didn't get to choose my surgeon, I was lucky enough to get one of the best. Also, the whole process (with referrals, approvals) took about a year but I got approved for surgery (and so did my hubby).

Insurance with Oxford. But as of July, my school is switching to BCBS. I was lucky to have great surgeons in network!

my insurance paid for all but 10% which I paid cash for, but my Dr. I chose had a 6500 bill on top of what the insurance paid. My husband took out a loan on his 401 K. I have no regrets I am so glad I did this

I am still waiting for my first bill from the hospital/dr. I got my radiology bill for 58 bucks for the 2 leak tests ( before leaving surgical suite and day after surgery).

I do know that my dr/hospital billed my insurance (Aetna PPO) over 75K and my insurance sent me a EOB stating that the hospital could bill me 11K but I havent gotten any bills yet. June 21st will be 2 months surgiversary.

Wink Insurance Paid!

My insurance, HealthNet HMO of California will cover my whole lap RNY. I only pay my $5 copay for office visits, and that is it! They approved in under a week.

My insurance is Priority Health Extended HMO out of Michgan. I had to pay a certain percentage of my physian's fee (total was $1000 but was reimbursed some of that). A total of $80 preop for the visits with their internist, the surgeon, 2 appointments with the behaviorist and an appointment with the nutritionist. Plus the cost of the food for the 2 week pre-op and 2 week post-op diet, which at that time was about $389. Also included in that was all post-op visits for up to one year post op, nutritionist visits, behaviorist visit and several exercise physiologist visits.

For my plastic surgeries:

Both my pannilectomy and breast reduction were covered by insurance though I had about $1289 co-pay and then an additional $1500 for the abdominal muscle tightening which wasn't covered by the insurance.

My PS revisions also weren't covered at all and I had to pay $600 out of pocket cost for that one.
