Default Anthem Blue Cros of California

Does anyone know if they are sticklers for the supervised weight loss program? I was refered out to the Sharp weight management but could not afford to do it. I have tried everything else under the sun on my own. I have a BMI of over 45. I have HIGH cholesterol and also Fibromyalgia ( a chronic pain disorder) and family History of everything else!

Default Six Month Diet

Here in CA there are fewer insurance companies requiring the six month diet because the state agency that oversees insurance companies has been approving appeals of patients who don't wish to complete the diet. I have HealthNet HMO and I was not required to do a diet. My surgeons requires a diet for the two weeks before surgery (in order to shrink the liver), but other than that there was no requirement. Good Luck!

Thank you. I go in for my individual consult on the 9th, so I am just trying to figure out as much as I can.

I have anthem Blue Cross PPO, too. My policy says it covers bariatric surgery 100% at a COE, but I only see 3 COEs listed in San Diego. Does that sound right to you?

I have the HMO 100% plan and it states that it covers the surgey 100% I have not read anything about any COE's and the people I have talked to at the insurance company have not mentioned anythin either. But since you are a PPO it is probably different.

That is most probably right about the COE's. They have to meet very strict requirements from the surgical review board to qualify. HealthNet requires that their members use a COE or they won't approve!

Default Keep me posted please

Doxielover - please keep me posted on your success. I am very interested!! They moved up my individual consultation to this last Tuesday, and I went to my first Pre-Op support group last night. I learned alot it was a great experiance. I went today for my labwork - 12 darn viles of blood whewwww. I go in for my EKG on the 20th, and then my other appointments will follow with the psych and my gallbladder ultrasound. Then it is just waiting on the insurance.

I have PPO Anthem Blue Cross and I am about to apply to insurance. They say that it is covered and I have a lifetime of records for diets. Hopefully they will accept. They say it takes about a month to get approved. Anyone know any different?

I don't know if I'm Anthem or not. I know I am Blue Cross of California PPO and I wasn't required by insurance to have the 6 month diet or any tests done. They said to get a letter from the doctor and they'll approve. I was required to do a bunch of stuff with the doctor's group before they'd do surgery.

From what I can ascertain Anthem is Blue Cross. Evidently there was a buyout or a merger or something. All I know is that I got new insurance cards and the website changed.

Hope that helps =)
