Default Military Hospital with Tricare Prime?

I'm having my surgery at a military hospital, I have TriCare Prime. But typically, when I see doctors on post, tricare does not get billed. Is it the same for surgery, or does Tricare still need to approve it.

Tricare did not need to approve my referrel to see the surgeon. But they need to approve the referrel for the sleep study, that was done at a civilian hospital.

Just curious how that works. I've been told, as long as my dr. referes me to the surgeon and the surgeon accepts me into the bariatric program that I should not have any dilemas.

At the support group the bariatric coordinator said, they schedule surgery after the one on one with the surgeon, and it could be anywhere from a week out to 2 weeks.

I'm having my surgery done on the 31st of this month at a military hospital and was told that as long as it's offered at the MTF that you don't have to get pre-approval from Tricare. If you go to a civilian provider then you have to go through the approval process though.

I have Tricare Prime, though my pcm is a civillian. Tricare had to approve the consult and surgery. I didn't need any approval for gallbladder ultrsound or upper gi. I just go the "bill"...$64,994.15!! I have to be the luckiest and blessed person to have been given this gift.

I have to ask... what is an MTF?

An MTF is a Military Treatment Facility.

It may be an Army thing

I've been married to my soldier going on 9 years. We are a year out from retirement so I want it done before the big changes in life.

Womak Army Hospital.

I am a lightweight per se, so I was really worried about getting approved by TriCare, but now I realize I do not need Tricare's approval. WOOT.

It takes a huge weight (no pun) off my shouldars to know that.

I'm shooting for May time period. I am almost done my checklist. I started on Feb 25, and only have a weigh ins and support groups left to complete.

It's not an Army thing. I'm having mine done at Balboa - been married to my Marine for over 20 years - and it's an MTF here too
