Default Question Abt. Medicare

HI I AM NEW TO THIS AND I AM TRYING TO FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO TO QUALIFY FOR WLS WITH MEDICARE? I HAVE THE BMI AND SEVERE ASTHMA AND HAVE BEEN APROX WEIGHT FOR 5+ YEARS, I HAVE DONE WEIGHT WATCHERS AND ATKINS WITH NO LUCK. I WENT TO A SEMINAR LAST TUESDAY NIGHT AND THEY SAID THAT I DID NOT HAVE TO PROVE WEIGHT LOSS ATTEMPTS WITH MEDICARE BUT I KEEP HEARING(READING) CONFLICTING THINGS. PLEASE HELP.

i have a type of medicare (ahcccss) but you must start with your PCP and they will research what you need exactly i had to have 6 months of physical therapy and 6mths of nutrition and then they denied me but then i appealed and won the appeal it took about a year and half so start now

Hi Patty-
I actually work for Medicare (11 years now) and there is no 6 month diet or anything like that. The one requirement is that you have to be 100 pounds overweight. Thats about it! If you have further questions on Medicare you can always pm me!

I have medicare and I was wondering about this ,so you dont have to have a sixth month diet? I am 48 I have 2 total knee replacements sleep apnae and HBP. I am 5'1 and have a BMI of 47 do you think I will forsee any problems?

Hi!
Medicare guidelines do not require the 6 month diet. You should have no problem getting this covered. You do not have to get this preapproved either because Medicare does not preapprove any service. Based on your hbp and bmi you will be fine.

Medicare is a Federal Insurance for 65+ and the disabled and Medical is a usually used as a supplemental insurance and is not Federal.

If you are in CA and you are asking about Medi-Cal, it is the California state Medicaid program. They choose to call it Medi-Cal because I guess they think it is cute.
