Fluffy...not trying to throw a monkey wrench into the works...but this surgery takes alot of dedication in regards to protein, vitamins, supplements, eating right, getting in your liquids, to name a few "HAVE TOOs"...and you state that you can not keep a food log. Concerns me somewhat.
Okay...that said...CONGRATS on the surgery date! I really mean it...it was just a concern I had when I read your post...
Truly wishing you the best in your weight loss journey!

[font="Comic Sans MS"] Hi Susan,
I have not been on one kind of a diet plan in the last 6mths or so. I just kept trying different ones and failing. Nothing supervised by a doctor though. I do not have any other health problems at this time. I went for my upper GI and Gallbladder ultrasound this morning and they found gallstones (2). Not sure if the surgeon will want to remove it at the time of surgery or not. They dont bother me. Are you approved for surgery or still in the process?

I totally hear ya and I think in my speedy desperate posting I didn't fully explain the situation -- I did keep food logs as far as what I ate it just wasn't the same "style" -- the dietician wanted me to count things and do calculations when what I was counting was carbs, fat, protein, etc. I can count all that, I was just having a really hard time trying to do the style she wanted me to do (ADA exchange style) -- I think it was comparable to weight watchers but I am not positive. It involved converting numbers and counting starches and calories -- nothing in grams. Does that make any sense? So, at that point when I had ONE appt. left I just wanted to have food logs in the format she wanted just to get it the heck over with. I know that sounds bad.. but here is the thing. If what she wanted me to do was working for me I wouldn't be having the surgery. She insisted that I eat NO LESS THAN 150 grams of carbs per day. I don't know about everyone else but my body type cannot have that many carbs a day. I asked if I could go lower. The response was any lower and I would have to go to the doc once a week for bloodwork because it was lower than they were comfortable with. I can't eat that many carbs without gaining weight, and, I did. After losing 25 pounds right before going on this program, via high protein meals 1 or 2 times per day, I followed what this dietician wanted and I gained the whole 25 pounds back. I was so upset because I had been faithful on this higher carb lower fat thing. I would go to the appts with my lists of exactly what I had eaten for a week or two and she would say, "this doesn't help me, I can't tell you anything from this. I need the numbers". -- NOT GRAMS -- but the exchange numbers that the ADA uses. Perhaps I am wrong but that doesn't work for everyone. If it did we'd all be slim. It worked for her, but she wouldn't let me work on what worked FOR ME and I paid out of pocket for her to help me. It was so frustrating.
Oh well it's over now. I am probably not very elequent in my explanation. But I thank you for your comments and support. This is a really great forum!!

Okay...that more or less makes sense. And it does sound too difficult to accomplish for a 6 month period! 150 grams of carbs??? Yikes!! I used to love carbs....but they didn't love me! I went on the Adkins diet (low carb) and the weight melted off, I lost about 40 pounds in 3 months...but as soon as I started adding a little carbs...I went crazy again!! I'm sure you understand how that goes.
I'm truly glad you didn't take offense...but now I realize what she was asking from you was REALLY nuts!
Again...good luck on your journey!!

Fluffy
Hi, I'm on my way in this program and the first question the nurse asked me was if I've been dieting? I've been in a funk with delays but I'm now motivated to diet. It's odd to even use the word (diet) when forever the failures are associated with it. I would have hoped that if the Dietician wanted a food log just so, that she would have had it prepared for you in the first place. It makes me feel snippy. Maybe it's just my lack of food since I'm dieting, which I haven't done for 10 years or more. Boy am I out of practice! But dieting was never my problem, it was maintaining. I'm still waiting for some final bloodwork before scheduling my pre-op appointment. I'm very excited for you. Hope to chat soon. Melanie

Thank you gals!!
Yes she was snippy. Very much so going to do whatever SHE was going to do and not much of an effort to work with me and do what might work for ME. And the feeling of failure... it was dreadful. I am so glad it's over!
Thanks so much for the support and friendship!!
