Default Tummy tuck covered by Saskatchewan (Canada) healthcare?

So if everything goes ok with my meeting with the surgeon, I will be getting the gastric bypass surgery done. My only concern is, right now my stomach hangs really low. I'm worried when I lose alot of weight, it will be incredibly big and saggy. If the skin doesn't retract a decent amount, what are the chances having that removed would be covered? I highly doubt it right?

Welcome. Hope you get a surgery date soon. I am in BC, had a AB doctor and he did both my RNY and my tummy after the surgery. I qualified as I had a large pannus (the skin hanging down) and history of infections, skin rashes and belly button issues. If its medical, then they cover it, if cosmetic, then no.

You have to know the procedure I had done is a panniculemtomy, and therefore the scar was done using the anchor incision. The used the same incision line as the gastric bypass, and then hip to hip which is the same as a tummy tuck. He did tighten the muscle layer underneath, which is technically a tummy tuck, not just a pannus. Its really a long explanation, in the end I am very happy with both my surgeries and my surgeon. Feel free to email me or message me if you want more details.

Where abouts in sask are you. Are you having surgery in Sask? I wasn't aware there was a doctor there doing the procedure. My husband is from Sask.

I'm originally from a small town, a couple hours from Regina, Sask. Surgery will more then likely be here in Medicine Hat, with Dr. Nohr. As that is where I am living currently. Its so great to see all the surgeries he has done. Purely amazing.

Anyhow, its not just cosmetic that I am worried about. I two get rashes under it, and infections. If it ends up getting larger/saggier, i'm only assuming this will get much worse. I guess only time will tell.

Thank you for your help

Kevin,

I am with Tricare Prime here in the US and I was told right from the onset that plastic surgery post-op would not be available - with the exception of the removal of the pannis in the event of skin infections.

Default Panniculectomy

It is usually pretty easy to get the panniculectomy done if you have skin issues after weight loss and are stable and at goal for 1-2 years depending on the ins. co., but the tummy tuck, called abdominoplasty that involves a lot of muscle repair in the abdomen is harder get paid by ins. I had large hernias so mine did get paid for, tho.

Default dr in sask?

I was told that I had too go to Ontario that there was no dr too do that here in Sask. Can someone tell me where to go and who too see? My dr told me that there was no one but then told me that his friend does the LapBand surgery there... I think its a Dr helping out another Dr. I actually from Saskatoon myself but spend alot of time in Regina that is where my boyfriend lives and where I plan too move, also since I am worried about the extra skin I was thinking about a tummy tuck as well do they do that the same day or how would it happen? I heard they do it in MooseJaw but rather it done in a bigger city like Regina or Saskatoon, I know someone who just had a tummy tuck done in Moosejaw and it was covered, Sask Health paid for it, I think she wrote the Minister of Health.

Can someone tell me what steps I need too take in order too get these procedures done and the steps .. thank you..
Michelle
