Default BCBS of Michigan Update

Hi, everyone! It's been ages since I've posted because I've been occupied with the 12-month PCP-monitored plan required by BCBS of Michigan. (SHHH -- this isn't common knowledge yet!)

GOOD NEWS: Yesterday Barix called me to give me a heads-up that BCBS of Michigan is changing the requirement to only 6 months as of 2008. That means that at my January appointment I can request that my PCP write my letter of recommendation. YAY!

I was being patient, knowing that it took me longer than 12 months to put on this weight, and I was also being a Good Girl. I lost 15 pounds since July, doing nothing more than avoiding all processed foods (fast foods, prepared foods, etc.), and learning to cook EVERYTHING from scratch (bread, mayonnaise, soups, etc.). I figure that I might as well get used to monitoring my food now so that after surgery it's not such a shock.

Just thought I'd share! I'll post when I've gotten approval (being optimistic here!).

Nice job on the cooking from scratch....that BCBS thing is pretty stringent, isn't it? Do you find that you are enjoying your food more from scratch?

Also....we are apparently neighbors!

Hey, Kelly! I'm in Sumpter, too (Bemis and Savage area, across from the Bake Shoppe).

I recently took an early retirement, so I am really enjoying cooking from scratch -- I never learned to cook properly, so we used to eat a lot of packaged foods and convenience meals.

After learning about preservatives and additives, I decided that part of my weight problem could well be attributed to them. If I have a packaged meal now I can really tell the difference. For example, I used to eat Chef Boy Ar Dee ravioli all the time. I bought a tin recently and had to toss it out after a couple of bites -- it tasted gross. Home-made ravioli is far superior!

Glad I "met" you!

I LOVE eatting foods made from scratch...but I just HATE cooking! Of course that poses a problem... Good to here that 2008 will be a year of changes for many of us!

Good luck with a "quick" approval and complication free recovery to us all!

'thann, congrats on things beng moved up! And I admire you for cooking from scratch.

I admire everyone who cooks anything! It is not what I like to do (nothing I'm proud of!), and as a result I am not a good cook.

Dear Thann,

My daughter Sarah had the open gastric bypass Dec 26th. From Doc Jon., the same doc that will be performing your surgery. I promise you you will be happy with the treatment you will receive from the center. The nurses are great. Good luck on your insurance approval. I know how frustrating it can be. It took us a year and a half. After we got the approval I felt like having a party. Sarah and I cried . Good luck to you, before long you will be having your own party.
P.S say HI to nurse Bob he is a great man and treated my daughter kind.
