Lulu... don't you have any medical records of your weight in the past 5 yrs? Nothing? Do you have every other requirement done, except for this one? You could try asking for an appeal... I dunno!

Katie, who can prove she's been battling weight for just about her whole life!

This is true...for the missing years you can have a picture with the year and your weight...then you have to write a letter saying why you dont have weights for those years.....they can reject that though...i have the same prob and i read about the pic thing in my WLS assesment package

You can supply pictures, any documentation of your weight that your doc may have on you, and you might even have a few friends write letters on your behalf that have known your struggles. Perhaps you can pull on a few heart strings that way? In either case, best of luck to you...

There are times that I am unable to approve a gastric bypass because there is no documentation to support the required weight hx for the previous 5 yrs. I cringe when I read the doctor's notes for visits where the patient refused to be weighed. They kind of screwed themselves. There are others where their scales only go up to 300 or 350 but we accept that documentation shows that scale cannot measure true weight and list as 350+ lbs. I recently did approve a member who submitted photos, that were dated either by the feature from the camera or a date on the back from where it was processed. He met all the other guidelines and by the photos, it was obvious his BMI was well over 40. I approved it. he didn't have insurance and could not afford to see the doctor. Proving that you have long term obesity is really a major part to criteria as there are many people that have only been overweight for the previous few years and want the surgery to lose weight. Believe me, I've seen it all. And when I thought I've seen it all, I come across something else. Try the photos. Every photos of you as child if you were overweight then. this will show a history of obesity. Good luck. Sue
