Default Canadian OHIP insurance

Just curious if anyone knows about the ins and outs of the OHIP plan for paying for plastics after WLS? I am almost certain I am going to need to have excess skin removed through a TT and probably a breast lift due not only to sagging but the irritation. I know that US insurance is different but if anyone from Ontario Canada knows anything I'd be pleased to hear it.

Thanks,

Kimberly

My mom had a Tummy Tuck a few years ago after losing a lot of weight. She just went to our family doctor about it and she got a referral to a plastic surgeon. The surgeon then determined that yes, due to skin irritations under the skin it was for a medical reason and not for cosmetic. That is it, no need for months and months of documentation. Just the doctor saying it is for medical and not cosmetic is good enough for OHIP, but you need that referral from a family doctor. If you try to go straight to the surgeon you either won't get an appointment at all for one or two you will be denied by OHIP. Of course having back up and documentation that you went to your family doctor for medical reasons does not hurt.

I got approved a few years back for breast augmentation through OHIP for the reasoning of self esteem issues, but decided to wait until I had lost my weight because I am sure I will really need it then, hehe. But even a reason like that is good enough sometimes.

Just talk with your family doctor about it and they can help out.
