Unhappy Weight gain during 6 month supervised diet

I go in for the last weigh-in of my 6 month supervised diet in 2 days and am terrified because I've managed to gain 20 pounds during this "diet"! Stress triggers my worst eating (and over-eating) habits and I'm so worried that my insurance company will deny me, I've managed to gain during this period.

I realize that insurance plans and coverage vary about as much as people do, but I was just curious about people who had to undergo the 6 month supervised weight loss and gained weight. Did your insurance company deny you because of it? Did they approve you with the stipulation that you had to lose "X" pounds before surgery?

I'm prepared for the worst...denial...but am clutching at straws hoping that there's still a sliver of hope left.

Thanks!

Well, I didn't gain, but I didn't lose either and they approved me.

Oh, I feel your pain! I did not gain either, but I did not lose that much weight, maybe 8 pounds.
Good luck to you.

I wouldn't worry about it. I think it might show them exactly that you DO need the surgery. I don't think it's necessarily that you need to lose weight but that you did attempt it for 6 consecutive months and that you do need the tool that surgery is. I did lose during my 6 months but part of that was during my classes that I took. I then took some time away from the whole surgery thing because I wasn't mentally ready and when I came back I was at a higher weight then when I started the whole process.

After gaining and then retaking classes I was still approved even though I was heavier then when I origanally looking into surgery.

Thanks, all, for chiming in! I went for my the last weigh-in of my 6 month diet yesterday. The doctor said that, with insurance, you never can tell but that it won't surprise him if they come back and say I have to lose some amount of weight before they approve me. He speculated 5% but has no real idea.

I'm going to try to get started on that 5% in case they come back and say that but, in general, I'm going to try to put it out of my mind. I'm told that it could take 30-45 days before I hear anything - even though I know it could be much sooner than that - so I'm going to try to relax, already!

You all will be the first to know if/when I get approval!

Wink I feel your pain

What insurance company do you have? I have Cigna. I gained weight over my 6 months, and I was still approved. My date is October 2nd. I have everything I need, and I am ready to go. It really depends on who your provider is...

I gained 12lbs...I think...it could have been more. My memory is going on the earlier days....it didn't have any impact on my approval. No one even mentioned it.

I was up and down the entire time. I was approved the first time! I know you have had a hard time in the past to get approved, but it will happen! Once I was approved, I gained 7 pounds. oopps!!! I had my surgery on Monday.
