Red face Aetna's fast-path...

I printed out the Aetna guidelines for WLS... They have the typical 6 month supervised diet thing... and an option for 3 month approval. I just got off the phone from my "team leader" and they will submit at 3 months to see if we can sneak me in sooner! WheeeeeeeeeEEEeeee! She said it's really hard to figure out what they are trying to say in their gobbely-gook, but they'll try.

She also said the TEAM (surgeon, psychiatrist, psychologist, nutritionist, and nurse practitioner) met yesterday and I am a "GO" from all the pre-exam/evaluations... "a good candidate." : ) I had my 4-hour Bonanza of appts. with them last week...

I start my monthly meetings Friday... and I'm hoping the month I've already spent with them counts... which puts this as possibly happening in Oct! : ) Worst case, I'd have to wait til the new year...

PSYCHED for SURGERY!!!

That's great news! It's nice to hear a positive experience with insurance. Good luck with the surgery!

I had Aetna and I didn't have to do a six month diet thing. My doctor made the referral and I was approved to see Dr. Callery. It took about 4 months to get all the tests and results that Dr. Callery requires scheduled and forwarded but once I did I was approved in 3 weeks.

I was very lucky the whole process up to my surgery date took only 6 months and that's because I wanted to wait until after the holidays to schedule my surgery and then I got sick with strep throat and had to cancel and reschedule. I love Aetna. I just hope the approval for my Tummy Tuck goes as easily. Fingers crossed.

I have Aetna. I did the six month diet thingie, but I know people who did the 3 month multi-disciplinary deal and did just fine with approval. I have to say, Aetna impressed me with the swiftness of their processing my request, and that they bent their own rules to approve me. I was prepared to hate them, but they've been nothing but fantastic.

Yesterday, I got a call from one of their follow up nurses, who specializes in gbp patients. She was a wealth of knowledge...and really quite sweet. She gave me her number for any questions or problems I might have and told me she'll follow me for a period of time post op.

Hi John... I'm not officially approved, but here are the guidelines. My Weight Management Team has me on track, and we'll submit after three months... late Oct. or early Nov. Hope the link helps you along your way as well...
