Default I'm back, been about a couple years.

Hey, i only posted here a couple times but ive been reading the boards and been reading up.

Well i remember posting here when i was around 19 not sure if anything in insurance would chance. Well a couple years later, nothing has changed. Around the time, i turned 21 on my bday, i did get a letter saying Aetna would pay for my surgery. I was crying, but later found out that my mom's employer still didn't cover it. I was very upset, but found i could do a 6 month diet although my bmi is over 50. So i did, and after all this, and the companies sending my stuff for review. My mom's insurane won't cover cause the employer has yet to change the policies.

I feel very happy for all of you and glad of all your successes, and i feel i will never get around this.

My mother said to look into financing but theres no way we could afford it, since ill be graduating in September and would have a job to pay off my loans in general for school. I don't know if anyone has ANY advice on this matter. I wanted to let u know, i dont want to come and go but i'm here to stay and provide support. Thanks.

Hi and welcome back. I'm confused.... what does it mean that aetna will cover it but your mom's employer won't? Is aetna their insurance? does her employer have some policy that prohibits the surgery even though their medical insurance covers it?

Anyway I guess the gist of it is you're struggling to get approval from insurance. Sorry they're giving you a hard time. I'm early in the process so my only advice is don't give up, keep your chin up, do the best you can for your health and be patient.

Exactly, it. It's like all my friends are behind me, and it's that I get so jealous, when i see members here who have gotten the surgery, and weighed less before they had it. But that's because too they're working and i guess older to a point where they're 100% sure. I know it may sound a lil immature, but i didn't mean it like that.

Everyone here has made the right approach it's just frustrating when you don't have control over something.

Some states have some pretty strict policies forcing companies to do the right thing. With a BMI over 50 (my starting BMI was also 50) you have a medical necessity.

Also, as said before, if you are just graduating college (next year I assume) you may be able to find a job where it will be covered in another couple of years. I know, it seems like waiting forever.

Have you talked to the people at Aetna and asked if there is a way around your Mom's employer? I don't really understand how they could say no if the insurance company says yes. Also - did you have your doctor write them a letter of medical necessity? My bet is that they are just going to wait you out. They see your age and know you'll only be on that policy until you graduate. Once you're no longer a full time student, they're off the hook.

I know it has been a long time of waiting, I know you are feeling discouraged, but you are young, and there is time - just don't give up.

My thoughts are similar to others here. When you have a good job after you graduate, perhaps your own insurance will cover it. The letter of medical necessity is also important, given your BMI. Keep trying, you never know when things will turn around!

That's the thing too, soon i won't even be covered cause im graduating next quarter and i dont have enough classes to warrant full time and i'll be off her insurance. But yeah, i'll just keep my head high.

I'll tell my mom tomorrow about the letter being written to Aetna. Thx for all advice!
