Guidelines

Although the administrators and moderators of Thinner Times® Forum will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and the owners Thinner Times® Forum will not be held responsible for the content of any message.

By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

The owners of Thinner Times® Forum reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.

Introduction ---------------------------------------------------

Below are some simple guidelines to keep in mind when you post. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact the Community Director or a Community Leader. People who violate the letter or spirit of these guidelines will be warned and banned if necessary. Please make Thinner Times® Forum a positive place for all.

Conduct ---------------------------------------------------

In general, "play nice". Treat one another with civility and respect. Do not belittle members, do not air dirty laundry in public, etc. If you have a problem with a member, PM (private message) them or e-mail them. If you have a problem with a member you do not feel you can get beyond, walk away or use the "ignore" function. We expect you to keep the best interests of the members/forums in mind. It is not in the best interest of anybody to start or contribute to flaming/bashing threads. These threads only result in hurt feelings and general negativity in the forums. It is neither necessary nor useful to participate in such communication.

Language ---------------------------------------------------

No violent, discriminatory language, or personal attacks are tolerated in the forum. Thinner Times® Forum is a G rated site. No profanity. Profanity is not needed because articulate people can express themselves without it, and it is broadly offensive. About definitions: some profanity is obvious, and some is contextual. But like art, profanity may be hard to define, but you know it when you see it. If we see any inappropriate posts, we may edit the post immediately. If the poster is a repeat offender she or he will be banned from the Forum. Occasionally the issue of the First Amendment comes up. This is a private forum, though open to the public. Hence, the owners of the forum reserve the right to enforce common decency. Failure to observe the profanity will result in an infraction. Three infractions result in a 1 week ban from posting. Five infractions result in a permanent ban.

Thread Title Style ---------------------------------------------------

Subject lines must contain only necessary punctuation. Capitalize only the first letter in the first word in a title.

Advertisement or Spam ---------------------------------------------------

No advertisement or spam of any form is tolerated on the Forum either in posts or private messages. A single website link is permitted in the signature line. Community Leaders may delete spam, warn spammers, and if necessary ban repeat offenders.

Junk posts will be removed. ---------------------------------------------------

The following are examples of junk posts:

* Very short posts that do not add value to the current discussion. For example, a post with only the words "yeah me too!" are spam.

* Off topic posts will be either removed or moved to the appropriate place, at a Community Leader's discretion.

* Posts that obviously serve no purpose other than upping one's post counts.

* Posts like "XXX, I have a question for you" are considered spam. They should be done via private messaging.

* Posts that contain large amounts of smileys and/or spaces to make it look like they contain useful information often don't.

* Cross-posting the same message in multiple forum categories is not permitted. Duplicate threads will be deleted or combined.

Relevancy ---------------------------------------------------

If a thread is not relevant to the forum category, we will move it to the appropriate forum.

Polls ---------------------------------------------------

We allow polls in most forums. We will remove polls that are silly or irrelevant, eg. John Doe made a poll titled "Who's da man?" and put his name in the options. Polls like "What's the juiciest kind of carrot???" are not productive and will be deleted.

Sexual Content ---------------------------------------------------

Clinical discussions about sex or sexual activity after weight loss surgery are reasonable subjects for threads. Other sexual content such as sexually explicit avatars, sexist jokes, use of violent sexual language, unwanted sexual advances, and the like are totally inappropriate and will be removed. Repeat offenders will be warned, and if necessary, banned. The distinction between clinical and non clinical sexual content is sometimes moot, and it will be up to the Community Leader's discretion to make the distinction.

Closing Threads ---------------------------------------------------

If we see that a thread is going downhill, we may close the thread. A prime example will be "flame wars" or totally off topic discussion.

Multiple Accounts ---------------------------------------------------

Only one account per individual is permitted. If you would like to have your user name changed, you may contact us with your desired change.

Fake Accounts ---------------------------------------------------

Usernames (handles) are welcomed and expected; however, do not create a false profile and masquerade as someone you are not. This undermines trust in the community.

Medical Disclaimer ---------------------------------------------------

The posts on this community are the opinion of the poster, and are never intended to be considered as "medical advice" offered by the owner of the Forum. We do not pre screen members as to identity or qualifications. Please consider the source whenever judging the value of the content of a message.

Role of Community Leaders (AKA moderators) ---------------------------------------------------

The Community Leaders are a group of well meaning, experienced participants who generously volunteer their time in an effort to make Thinner Times® Forum a pleasant and informative venue. Their charge is to steer participants along these guidelines listed above. If a Community Leader finds that a post violates the community standards, she or he may edit the post, delete the post, or warn the user through a private message or an infraction system. Accumulated infractions can lead to a temporary or permanent ban from the community. If a post is edited by a Community Leader, an notice and explanation is left on the bottom of the post.
