Post- Op Questions??
Hey everyone- I am officially on the Loser's Bench! You can read more about my actual experience so far on my personal story blog...
I actually was wanting a little feeback/advice from other sleevesters. It is VERY painful for me to drink ANYTHING. I know I am allowed to work up to the 64 oz a day off fluids, but this is almost ridiculous. I swallow a small sip and have to take several minutes to allow the pain to subside. So far the nausea is under control with meds. Just wondering if any of you have had this same feeling, and if it got better fairly quickly?
Thanks!

I'm actually pretty disappointed that this has been viewed 37 times with not a single reply. Maybe some peeps have replied to my personal story instead?
Anyways, things are getting better. Still have the pain when I try to drink too quickly of certain fluids, but others go down just fine. My main complaint is that anytime I drink a high protein item- I get a POUNDING HEART. Told my surgeon's office and still no response from them.... I'm hoping this is just normal since I have such a small stomach now?
I'm holding steady at 10 lbs lost.... my pee is clear yellow (yay!) so I must be doing something right. Took the dogs for a 40 minute leisurely walk today and boy am I sore. But it felt good to get out and about. Now I'm off to bed with my dose of Liquid Vicodin!

I've read your posting but, have no answers for you. I have not had surgery as yet and when I do I will be having the RNY. There are a couple of sleevsters here but, not many. You might want to send a PM to the ones that are here. You might get a response that way.

NorCaIRN did you ever get any answers through PMs. I am still pre op and I am curious to know what this could be. I am also going to have the RNY Lap however this may happen to anyone. Once you hear back from your surgeons office can you post a response. Thanks!!

Okay,
So the pain with drinking is NORMAL. To be expected, which is why they tell us to take it sooooo slow. I find that now I am almost 2 weeks out, I can drink better with no pain. However, WATER (of all things) still hurts if I try to drink it too fast. I find that slightly thicker liquids go down much much better.
Also- I shared I was having a pounding heart when I drank my protein drinks. My surgeon DID respond, and told me that esp with thicker liquids, they do not empty out as quickly, so I am probably ending up with some of the drink in my esophagus. He said this will not only trigger a pounding heart, but some of that feeling is also esophageal spasms. So the cure? THINNER liquids, SLOWER drinking. No prob!
Also, MsReady- relax. I know you are super worried about complications which is totally normal. But don't stress yourself out- you are so close!!! Try to relax and have faith, do a lot of praying. I have faith you will come through surgery with flying colors and do wonderfully! I have a nice warm spot here right next to me on this loser's bench- ready for you!!
Hope this helps!
