Default PCOS, Diabetes and Laser Hair Removal

Hello peeps,

The thing is I've been looking into having laser hair removal and attended a skin clinic for a consultation yesterday. I was feeling pretty optimistic until they got to the diabetes and the possible problems that could arise. They asked me to check with my doctor whether any of my medication would make my skin sensitive to the treatment. Well today my friend armed with a list of my medications, checked it out for me and it appears that it should be ok. Due to my PCOS I have facial hair over my top lip; cheeks; jaw line and on my neck. For years I've been using creams to improve the appears, but in truth anyone can see that I have the shadows of a beard. I'm wondering whether anyone else who is diabetic has sever hair growth on their face and has embarked on laser treatment. Thankful for any support or informaiton on this.

Regards

Hyacinth.

I don't have diabetes, but I do have PCOS and lots of facial hair. I've had laser hair removal and am very pleased with it. I go to a medispa that is linked to a dermatologist. I had to meet with him before I had any procedure, which made me feel good about the place. I would highly recommend the procedure to anyone with facial hair. It takes several treatments to get rid of it all, but I think you'll be pleased with the result. Let me know how it goes . . .

hey hychap-I've had laser hair removal and electrolysis-neither was permanent or long lasting. Have had the best success with something called "IPL"-similar to laser but a different technology-and you also want to make sure to get it done under a physicians supervision such as at a medi spa. by the way, I have found the little "personal groomer/trimmer"s to be good for quick touch up and they don't leave a shaving shadow. None of the hair removal systems have been permanent for me-I'm definitely a "lifer" and have tried them all.

Hello peeps.

I've now had 2 sessions of laser hair removal. So far i'm impressed with the results as I did'nt expect to see any improvement so quickly. Some parts have not grown back in the 2 months and those that have - are much finer. I have 4 more treatments to go. Unfortunately, I came to this too late as the grey hair under my chin/jaw can not be treated. They did tell me that because I have PCOS there is a strong possibility that the hair may grow back in maybe 2 years and I need another course of treatment. I hoping by then I would have had my surgery and that the PCOS would have improved dramatically, reducing the amount of facial hair growth.

I go to a professional skin clinic in London - Victoria. Its costing me quite a bit particularly as I've not been working consistantly. £774.00 = $1,284.43
I hope it works.

I had PCOS and what with the menopause, excess facial hair is a problem.

I've been had electrolysis over the years but it seems a never ending battle. Get rid of one and 5 more spring up to start a wake!

Sadly, I recently looked into lazer treatment - it seemed the answer to my prayers. Unfortunately, my fair haired (that and grey) so it doesn't make me a good candidate.

My doc gave me a prescription for VANIQA® but the cost is horrendous (close to $100) and I can't say I noticed any significant improvement.

A friend of mine has had good results with it but it's only a temporary fix, it doesn't get rid of the hair permanently.

I wish I could find something permanent - it really bothers me.

To date I've had 3 sessions, I can see some results already. I felt I had no choice but to go for it now as plenty of the hair on my neck and chin have now turned grey, these will not be able to be treated. I'm hoping that once I've had the surgery and start losing weight, this will impact on the regrowth. The clinic I went to did ask for a list of my medication to see whether any of the drugs I am taking would make my skin sensitive to the laser. I have my surgery in a couple of weeks and my next laser session on November 2nd. The final session will be Jan. 2010. I hope by then I would have lost a fair bit of weight. I feel much more confident already.

I do not have PCOS, but I did have laser hair removal on my legs. I got tired of shaving. I am not happy with the results at all. I still have to shave at least twice a week. I paid right at $1800.

WOW! That's not a good look at all. How many sessions did you have, and how long did it last without having to shave. OMD.
