8 VSG rules for Dummies
(Revised)
For those of you who are contemplating VSG as a surgical option, the following 8 Post-op rules will keep your weight loss program on a downward track.
The rules are simple really:
1) Eating: Take in 80 gms of protein per day. Do not drink 45 mins before or afterwards. At meals eat the protein first, then the other stuff. Pick low fat proteins like fish, chicken, and low fat cuts of beef and pork. About 4-6 oz is all you should take in in any given meal. (I use a small plate.)
2) Drinking: 64-80 oz of unsweetened clear liquid per day. (Water preferred) Lots of times when you think you are hungy, you are actually dehydrated. Your urine should run clear. If yellow you are dehydrated.
3) Prohibitions: No carbonated beverages at all. They stretch your sleeve out and make you feel hungry. No alcohol till goal.
4) Frequency: Eat 5-6 small meals - B, L & D + two or three small low sugar high fiber snacks. (solid food stage only)
5) Carbs: Avoid high glycemic veggies - potatoes and rice, etc. Sugars of all kinds. Sucrose, fructose. Limit fruits at first too.
6) Good veggies: Pick green veggies - broccoli, cabbage, spinach, green salad. You know which ones. Low glycemic index veggies. (solid food stage only)(double check w your nutritionist-some say wait for a year before hard/raw veggies)
7) Snacks and fiber: For snacks pick high fiber stuff. If you take Metamucil or some other water soluable fiber bars, be sure and wash it out of your stomach with water immediately after eating. Fiber sitting in your sleeve, will stretch it. (solid food stage only)
8) Vitamin supplements: (Daily) Multivitamin, Vitamin C, and B-complex. I also take CoQ-10 (antioxidant), 3 caplets of fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids), and a baby aspirin. (solid food stage only)
So there you have it. VSG weight loss in 8 easy steps.
First and foremost follow your doctors orders. The above 8 rules are what has worked for me.
Good luck.

Keep in mind that the dietary guidelines do vary somewhat from one program to another. To give only one set of guidelines, as being THE way to go, can be both misleading, and it can pull people away from what their docotr recommends.

...the thread was started (or reposted actually) in response to someone who had not received ANY guidelines from their surgeon. Either that or they were lost. This person had been gaining weight as a result.
I did not, nor would I EVER say that I have THE one and only way. I have no way to know ALL guidelines in every program. TT is an internet support group, not a medical practice. I believe most people here are bright enough to know that.

I know that some surgeons do not provide their patients with any guidelines, do not have their patients work with a nutritionist, etc. P

Revision to the 8 rules
I'm going to edit the 8 rules above to inclued a qualifier that you must be at the solid food stage for some of the points.
Also....follow your doctors orders first and foremost.

Signature help.
Hi Aviator,
I need help.I keep on having problems updating my ticker. Can you tell me in simple mode how to do it.I am with tickerfactory.com but will change if yours is different and/or easier to follow.
I already know you will help me-is that taking you for granted-so thank you ahead of you helping me.
I have been following your blog with interest and amusement. You sound so happy.I have noticed how you discuss food/diet so much less now.It is getting so much easier isn't it-well the weight loss is but the ticker isn't.If I work out the ticker I might get around to pictures!!
Have a really good day.I noticed that another member said you have a good heart or something similar.Isn't it of interest that one can tell that about a virtual stranger by just the words they write.I would have to agree with her.Wealth, and social status doesn't factor into something like that. One either has a good heart or doesn't.You have the good heart.
Vicki
