Hello new here, VSG 2/25 and stalling already!
Are there still people on here?
I need some help! Or answers to my questions at least.
My surgeon gave me pics of the operation, so I should believe him... but why am I hungry all day? I thought the ghrelin would be gone! Also, I could eat solids one week post-surgery and I have been able to eat an entire plate of food... it seems to depend on the type of food... I just had 4 cookies and several pretzles covered in chocolate because I had a low blood sugar episode (which used to happen to me often, but this is the first time since surgery) and I had to get sugar into me pronto.
I lost 20 lbs the first 3 weeks and the past 4 days I haven't lost anything.
I'm confused, why can I eat so much?
The other day at a party, i ate a whole plate of food.
Then at dinner, I'm full after 3 shrimp and some asparagus.
I don't understand why I feel so full sometimes and at others can eat almost like I did before.
Is it possible he didn't do the surgery??? I mean, I sure felt enough PAIN (he refused to give me pain killers other than Tylenol).
i can drink soda, no problems. I thought that wasn't going to be possible.
I loved the first few weeks when I was losing a pound per day. What is going on???
Help!!! Please!!!

stalling can have alot to do with a couple things. Are you getting enough protein? your meals are not consistant amounts, you should stlil be measuring and such at this point. Also, no soda. Even though it doesnt make you sick or anything, soda isnt good for your new system. I know the sleeve is different than rny, but the same rules apply for proper weight loss! And stalling on either is very common between 4-6 weeks post op. Good luck

Thanks for your reply. My surgeon did not say anything about measuring. crap. How much measuring do you do? For every meal? Each item, or the total amount?
Also, I have found it's easy to drink while eating... is there some reason I shouldn't be doing that? I thought that would help me feel fuller. Is it the opposite?
I'm still learning....

I measure alot of things. If i make a quesadilla, i measure how much cheese and meat, but not the tortilla. Tonight, i had stirfry and i measured the protein, steak only. I really only care about how much protein i have now. just so i make sure that my 3 oz pouch is filled with the best stuff possible first. I like knowing how much it is. Keeps me from taking too little or too much. For the RNY people, our pouches are only so big. Dont know about the sleeves. Talk to Aviator, he had his on new years eve this last year and is thriving.
Drinking and eating after wls is not good. The reason is you need room for those good things, not water at meal time. Plus if you drink and eat, you may push your food through quicker which will lead you not having the feeling of fullness long. Me personally, i try not to drink up to 1 hour.. sometimes longer after I eat. The sooner i drink, the sooner i want to eat again.
I am not sure of all the differences between sleeves and rny, because sleeve wasnt an option for me. But it would be a good idea to speak to your surgeon or nutritionalist about the problems you are having so they can guide you down the right path for success.
Are you getting enough proteins?

I'm going to start counting proteins. Today (so far, it's 2:30 PM) I've had 13 grams of protein. I still have dinner to eat, so I'll go to the store and buy some meat and cheese to have around.
Also, I re-read my initial post and don't want you to think I'm totally screwing up! Those two times I mentioned were the only 2 times I've gone off track in the month since surgery. It just so happened I mentioned them both because I thought it was strange I could fit all that food in at that party, and also weird I had a low blood sugar episode when I hadn't had any sugar that day or carbs either.
Thanks for the insight regardng the drinking at the same time. i thought that would make me feel fuller, but maybe it's having the opposite effect, like you said, and pushing the food through faster.
My surgeon is overseas (insurance wouldn't cover it and it was $6000.00 overseas vs. $30,000.00 here in the U.S.) and I don't feel like I should bother him all the time with questions that other sleevers could possibly answer. maybe I'm just too shy and should shoot him an email.
Thanks so much for your insights!

first off why would you even try to be eating like that! im 3 months post op and havent tried soda, cookies, or sugar for that matter..
i couldnt drink and eat at the same time if i tried!
and only a little food at a time and i am full!
if i were you i would go see another dr and ask them to do an ultra sound of your stomach to make sure he really did the surgery.
sounds kinda fishy to me!

Being diabetic, i might make a suggestion if you experience low blood sugar. First off i wouldnt eat cookies, i would reach for a glass of fat free skim milk. The lactose will raise your blood sugar before you know it and in 8 ounces you are getting an additional 7 grams of protein.
stay away from sweets. especially those derived from carbs, at least empty carbs like cookies and pretzels. all they will do is increase your desire to eat more of them. You also might want to keep sugar tablets on hand, available at any pharmacy. Take one and check your sugar. they are 15 grams of carbs each.
If you see and endocrinologist, or are on medication for your blood sugar like insulin or pills she might want to monitor you closely and change your doses if she finds your blood sugar issues are becoming often.
Food for thought so to speak.

ya know i agree with nicole. If it is that easy to get foods in and liquids, you may wanna just check it out. No harm in doing it.. just complain of stomach pain and insist upon it. Insurance should cover it.
I worry that youre only at 13 grams of protein at 2:30. I woke up at 10 am, and at 2:30 i was already at 55. Trust me, you gotta get the protein up , and carbs down to work this right. I didnt get enough protein for 2 months... and stalled on and off. Now that I am doing it... 101 grams yesterday... 80-100 usually for 2 weeks, i am dropping weight like crazy. 3 lbs this week so far! Sooooo.. keep that in mind too!

Thanks ladies. I went to the store and found those glucose tablets so now I have them in my purse for emergencies and won't have to go to the break room for sweets when a low blood sugar episode hits.
I also bought: eggs, cheese, string cheese, 98% fat free ground beef, chicken breast, shrimp, veggies, yougurt, peanuts, walnuts, shaved chicken and turkey from the deli, and edamame. So hopefully I'll be set for proteins! I guess I wasn't aware of how MUCH protin I should be getting. I looked it up on a website and calculated 87 grams per day! At least until I lose weight.
Thanks for the tips, especially the protien and the glucose tblets, what a find!

I feel that with what your eating, drinking, feeling you should contact your surgeon and get in to see him ASAP.
He / she would be the main person to ask all these questions if what you say is actually happening. Didn't your surgeon give you any information on what to eat, drink??
Where was your surgery? Who is your surgeon?
