Ibuprophen ?
I just injured my back and I need a muscle relaxer. Is there an issue with Ibuprophen and the new sleeve. I am about six weeks post op.
thanks!

Ibuprofen isn't a muscle relaxer, its an NSAID, or Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
How about tylenol until you find out from your doctor?

NSAID are a no no, they can cause an ulcer in your sleeve.

One of the beautiful things about the sleeve is that, contrary to what another person posted her, there is NOT limitation on oral medications that can be taken once your surgery heals.
That is one of the reasons I chose the sleeve. I have to take 800mg of Motrin, three times every day. I could not take that medication with the RnY or with any bypass procedure. My arthritis is so bad, that without medication I am chair ridden.
BUT, with the sleeve, there is absolutely no problem taking my medications. You just take it with a little milk or food, just as you should do with a normal stomach.

That's interesting that people with the sleeve can use NSAID's. That's a huge no-no with gastric bypass.

That is one of the reasons why I chose the sleeve. I have psoriatic arthritis, and must use NSAIDS, in order to function comfortably. I was able to get back on my Motrin only 7 days post op.
I also know that I do love an occasional sweet. With any of the bypass surgeries, I would likely develop dumping if I ate a piece of chocolate, or a couple of bites of pie. With the sleeve, that is not a problem. I can quite literally eat anything that I want to eat.
BUT, the ability to eat things like that can lead a person into trouble, if they do not exercise some self discipline. I communicate with people that eat all of the wrong things, and then say, "Well, the sleeve is lousy, I'm not losing any weight".
The sleeve, like any other form of weight loss surgery, is just a tool. It is only as effective as you make it be.

I have the sleeve and was told 100% NO on the NSAIDS.
My mother has a bleeding ulcer thanks to NSAIDS and I wouldnt risk that with what little stomach I have left.
My doctor said no and I trust him. I'm down 53 lbs in 3 months, its working for me and I'd like to keep it that way. No NSAIDS is a small price to pay for a healthy me.

You should always do what your doctor tells you to do. The majority of physicians that have experience with the sleeve, say that NSAIDS are fine. But, you should ALWAYS take them with milk or food, never by themselves. That's what it usually says on the bottles.
I have been taking 800mg of Motrin, three times a day, for over 30 years now, without a problem. But I have never taken that medication without either milk or food.
My surgeon is part of the Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Vanderbilt University, which is a "Center of Excellence". I really do not think that they are going around telling patients to do things that could harm them.
