Does Medicare cover the sleeve?
I am on Medicare due to a disability and I was wondering if Medicare covered the sleeve. I was thinking they may not because it is too new and the isn't a lot of facts on outcomes on it. They covered my band, but that took medicare awhile to do also.
My surgeons office has never submitted a claim to medicare for the sleeve. When I called medicare the lady seemed like she wasn't 100% sure, but she said it didn't look like they did.
So, if medicare doesn't cover this procedure then I can't get it. I just don't have the money to get it, not even in Mexico.
My surgeons office suggested I go for the RNY but that isn't what I wanted and I am afraid of the whole re-routing the intestines thing. I don't want to go through all that dumping and other issues RNY patients have. I will have to wait until medicare sees the sleeve as a go for their insurance and cover it. That will probably take a few years.
This truely sucks!!!!
