Default Staples itching horribly

Hello,
I was wondering if anyones staples itched the worst itch you can imagine. I'm tempted to go in and see if I have an infection. They are red around the whole spot. Lisa

I didn't have any itching if it's red and swollen you should call your doc. Better safe than sorry!

I had horrible itching but it was from the tape on the band aids, apparently I am sensitive to it.

did you have OPEN RNY? I didn't have stitches on the outside... just steri-strips holding my incisions closed.... and they fell off after a few days!

itching is a sign of healing - my doctor told me that when the incisions got red and puffy, it was my body working on dissolving the internal stitches....

It certainly wouldn't hurt to call in to talk to your doctor's staff to see what they think...

let us know how things work out!

My body didn't like the staples either. So I can sympathize with you. How long before you are due to go and have them out? Have you ever had them before? If not after they take them out they usually put the sterile strips over the incision. I remember it seemed like forever before they all fell off.

Were you told to keep them bandaged or to let air get to them? Are you allowed any moisture on them like being able to take a shower? If so I'd call the nurse and ask if you could use anything like neosporin (sp) or an anti itch antseptic cream of some sort. Surly they have something you can use. Hope you find some relief soon.

Default I know this is gross

Thanks everyone,
I finally realized that due to all the antibiotics in the hospital I have yeast infection on my staples and in my groin area. I know this because my sister had the same thing. I started blowdrying the areas and they are already looking better. I knew the staples were healing but this itch caused big welts around the little incision areas. Whenever I'm on antibiotics I usually get a yeast infection. I was taking antibiotics for a long time before surgery for other issues and I was eating yogurt and taking probiotics but now after surgery I've had yogurt once and no probiotics. I'm not even sure if I can take probiotics I'll ask at my next appt on Thurs. I did have laproscopic surgery but most of my little incisions are in concave areas if you know what I mean. I shower daily and keep everything dry I'm just susceptible to yeast. I even noticed that the protein shakes are sticking to my tongue so I might even have a little thrush. Thanks for all your answers. LIsa
