Default Port Pain/Discomfort

Hello,

I had surgery on August 10, shortly after surgery I would feel some discomfort near the port site. However rececently (last few days) I have constant pain/discomfort near the port.

I mentioned the discomfort to my dr last week; unfortunately at that point I only felt pain after being on my feet all day and he said that was normal as he stitches the port to the stomach muscle.

My question to fellow bandsters is if you have the same issues? If so, when did this resolve itself?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I don't have the band, so I can't speak from experience. But it sounds like you are saying the pain is getting worse. Maybe not more severe, but now it's pretty much constant, when it wasn't constant before. I think you should call your doctor again. I don't know if it's normal of not, but if it's because the port is stitched to the stomach muscle, wouldn't you think it would be gradually getting better over time, not worse? Call your doctor back.

Kelly

Are you doing more exercise now?
I had REALLY bad pain around my port area anytime I'd exercise or stretch for about 3 months after surgery but my port was put in between my breasts and then down a little.

Where is your band? Mine was under my right breast and in the beginning it annoyed the heck out of me because of my bra. Alot of people have it down below your belly button. I remember it being very sore in the beginning because your body is trying to reject and accept it. But I wouldn't call it pain. Is it getting worse? Are you doing more activities that might be irritating it? It does take a while to heal and you're not that far out.

Now, even 3 years later the muscle the port was attached to would spasm from time to time.

If it's really causing you "pain" and getting worse, you should call your doctor.

Good Luck!

Default Thanks for your responses...

My port is located approx 4 inches above my navel, slightly to the right. I was told by the Dr. that the discomfort is due to the healing and that this is totally normal and excercise can aggrevate the area.

No, I don't have sharp pain and it's not warm around the site. I'm told that this will resolve itself w/n the next few weeks.

Again, thanks so much for everyone's responses.

Yeah yours is in the same place as mine. It will feel better eventually but always be a little uncomfortable when you're laying on your belly.

Red face thanks God, I read this

I have been feeling this lump right above my belly button to the right the last few days. It is sore to the touch and almost feels hard. I did do some new exercises recently and it got worse. Now I think it is my port. I had no idea that is where they put it. I go for my 4 week post-op Thursday and will confirm it. I knew I would find the answer on here...thanks!
