Default Not Fat Enough

Hi

I'm Cassy. I'm 28 years old, 5'1 and 220 lbs. BMI 39
I'm miserable. I have no motivation, I've tried every diet. I usually have to do the low calorie diet and starve myself (or it feels like it) at about 1200 calories a day, in which my head aches and I'm depressed and hungry all evening which some times leads to a binge.

So-I'm definitely leaning toward getting the band done.
I need help though!

I'm considering the Banjanor hospital in Tijuana.
So I need to know if anyone has good or bad things to say about having surgery here or in Mexico...

Second, everyone says I'm not fat enough because I model, but I'm a fat model! I'm an 18-20 in jeans currently and 1x-2x in dresses and tops.
I huff and puff up stairs, break a sweat and feel like my heart is beating out of my chest at the slightest of exercise. I feel like I'm going to be diabetic any moment, I urinate constantly and always "crash" after a meal.
So are there any ladies that had about 80-100 lbs to lose and opt for the band?

3rd and most importantly-WOULD YOU DO IT AGAIN, DO YOU STILL ENJOY MEALS AND DO YOU STILL EAT SOME FOODS YOU LOVE? I'm Italian, I eat pasta 3 nights a week, can't imagine life without pasta, cheese and some desserts like pastries...I'm wondering right now this:
IF I CAN'T DO IT ON MY OWN, IF I HAVE SURGERY WILL I RUIN IT BY BURSTING IT OR NOT ADHEARING TO THE RULES?
I cannot be the only person that can't diet and gives in all the time, how do you lose weight and still sneak treats?
Oh, and one last thing, did anyone need plastic surgery after 100 lbs lost?
I'm worried about my arms, they are bingo wings now being heavy!!!

So again, my questions are:

Do you still get to enjoy (sometimes) your favorite foods?

Would you do the lapband again?

I relate to you 100%. I have about 80 lbs to lose. I had the band in November 2006 but now I'm going for a revision to Bypass. After my band I lost about 40 lbs and that was it. It's very easy to cheat the band by eating "bad" foods that slide down very easily. EVERYONE tells me that I'm not heavy enough, and they all said the same thing when I had the band. I don't care anymore what they think. I've tried everything under the sun and I can't do it. The only food that never agreed with me after my band was chicken - no matter how it was made. But now I eat pretty much everything. That's why I'm having the revision.

I don't want to talk you out of having the band, of course its a personal decision, and if you want to talk more about it, PM me and I'll answer all your questions.

I hope to hear from you!

WHY are they doing the bypass if you have 80 lbs to lose?

Because the band didn't work for me and I'm headed right back up. I have to nip it in the bud. They'll only do the bypass if you've already had the band and it didn't work. They wouldn't have done it right from the beginning.

I had the lap band surgery in 11/2008 and to date I have lost 65 pounds... I feel so much better and would recommend the surgery if you are willing to lose the weight at a slower pace...

I had the LB 4/22/09 and have lost 50 pounds (almost all that since March, since I couldn't lose much during my 6 mo. insurance diet...or I wouldn't get approved). I want to lose 85-100 pounds total and I'm halfway there 3 mo. post band (lost 20 pre-band and 30 since). I'm a 'good' dieter...have lost major weight many times but always gained it back. I was especially good at Atkins because you can eat tons of stuff if it's the right foods. Here's what I'd say about the band...I wouldn't have gotten it if I had to go on another diet...diet's don't work for me as I can't do them for life and they always have an ending. I was determined to make this a lifestyle I could live with from the start and I found a doc who has the same outlook...I don't have to drink a protein shake EVER (I have after fills for a few days, just because it's easier). I almost always eat the same thing my family eats (I usually leave out the starch, but sometimes I have that too). The big difference is stressing the protein first and portion control, which is exactly what I needed help with. NO food is off limits...I can and have eaten everything. I never feel deprived like I have on so many diets...I've never been on a diet where I didn't feel deprived, miserable and shaky hungry all the time. My daily routine hasn't really changed that much...the biggest change has probably been when I can drink and trying to remember to between meals. Yeah, I've gotten 'stuck/slimed' but it's always my fault for not chewing well...sometimes you just mindlessly eat like you did before the band. Sure there are Banders who still drink several meals of only protein shakes and some that have given up certain foods completely, and maybe they are losing faster than I am, but I don't consider what they are doing something I can live with for life (what is life without some bread and pasta sometimes LOL...and honestly, after almost 9 mo. online with this, I've seen many of them get burned out on their 'diet'). If you're willing to lose more slowly and wait for a few fills before restriction kicks in then I'd say the band could work well for you. I'm not saying you don't have to change anything, I wouldn't have lost 50 pounds if that was true, but the band just makes it easier to eat less. I think you can 'eat around' any of the WLS and you just have to be ready to make the commitment to it. We low BMI'ers have our own set of challenges, but I found the band was the perfect choice for me. Good luck to you in your choice. I just wish I would have done this years ago (I'm 50 now and have just started developing comorbidities). Best Wishes -BG
Forgot to say- I started at a 37.7 BMI and am now in the 'Overweight' BMI category at 29.
