Default New to it all!!

Hi, I am new to all of this. I have "dieted" for years, with no real results. I moved to Israel at the beginning of the year and have been in contact with my doctor since then. She has put me on Xenical, which isn't working. I have an appointment on the 3rd of September, and if there is no real weight loss she is sending me to the surgeon. I have been discussing the lap band with her for a few months now. In Israel, there really is no waiting time or insurance approval. If the doctor thinks you need one, then off you go to the surgeon. It really is your choice. However, if I have the procedure done, I am concerned that I may not be able to care for my boys, almost 9 & 10. I just am not sure how long the "down time" is.

You shouldn't have too much down time. Usually you will have a lifting restriction for up to 6 weeks, but I'm sure you are not carrying your 9 and 10 year old around, so that shouldn't be a problem. Actually, you can involve them. Explain to them what you are doing and tell them that you will need their help carrying the laundry to the machine, bending to pick things up, etc.

I had RNY, but maybe some some of the banded friends can provide more specific answers.

Best wishes!
