Hi Siepie

How are you getting on - have you spoken to Dr D yet? Have you booked your opp and which one are you going for?

Love hearing from you

Hi all

I am getting the gastric band done in april the 21st in brussels, have it all booked and paid for, costin me 5680, which is cheap, compared to the one in Dublin, which was 10k, i think the surgeon aint working there anymore coz he didnt get paid? i dunno..

did anyone get it done here in brussels?

a bit nervous, a bit scared and a bit excited all in one.

i am 5"10" and 22.5 stone!! horrible i know, i have tried everything possible and think this is the last resort. have looked it up on the net, hence finding this site and ther is mostly good things to be said about it!

can someone be my buddy when it comes to this so i can at least relate to someone who has it done.

my email is lgarde@hotmail.com

not sure if they let ya post the email address, but what the hell

Default gastric banding in belgium

Hi Lindsay,
Have you found the site Lap Band Talk Forum - The largest forum for Lap Band Surgery Discussion and Lap Band Surgery Support and go to thread "hi....nikki from Ireland"theres a whole heap of lIrish lapband people there.I dont want to upset your plans BUT (I had researched all this as I was gung ho to have it also but changed to rny which is right FOR ME)there is a Belgian Dr recently coming to Dublin called Chris de bruyne(google him) and he does the op for about 3400 in Belgium-VERY good reports of his thoroughness. You need to consider how easy it will be for you to get fills (and De-fills if you have a complications)back and forth on a plane isn't ideal and Chris is coming to Dublin about once a month. He replies to email quite quickly-it may be obesityassist.com: The Leading Obesity Site on the Net or something like that.
Hope this is a help sweety, well done for taking the initiative and not waiting til you're an ould one like me!!
One thing to be aware of is that tho the back pages of the thread I recommended are good, recently there has been problems at the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and the media managed to get into the website and apparently ran a programme quoting a lot of the posts-the members have all(rightly so)become very cagey about what they say and are pm-ing each other onstead. However the earlier stuff should give you a great idea of what to expect with your banding op and aftercare. \good luckxx

Hi SiepieI had* lap band surgery in 2004 and started having complications the following year and had to have it removed october last year, i have now put most of my weight back on, so now i am going to brugge in may to have a gastric bypass by dr dillimen, i just wished i chose the bypass in the first place. A couple of months ago i read in the paper that people who have diabetes and have had a gastric bypass have been cured, just a little something for you to think about, good look in wot ever you deside***** stephanie.*

I have been reading the lapbandtalk site for months but have(one the advice of 2 surgeons)decided to go for the bypass instead of band(eeek!I wake up with panic attacks)here in Cork. There is a new Obesity surgeon appointed to the Bons Secours Hospital.I am booked in to be done on 2nd July with a 2 week liquids only diet beforehand.I am excited but terrified at he same time.My bmi is 42 but I have no medical problems except arthritis so Dr thinks I am a good risk.
Just wondering Lindsey a few questions
1.He has told me that I will be weak from lack of food for 3 months which is the biggest shock time to the body.I'm finding it hard to decide how much time off work I should take.I only work 2/3 days per week but its standing and walking.
2.Also have a weeks holiday planned end sept with Mother(I will be the one hauling suitcases)should I cancel that?
3.Does the dumping thing happen EVERY time you eat ANYTHING sweet or can you eat, say, a square of chocolate?/boiled sweet?
4.How FATIGUED are you-he has warned me of HUGE fatigue that just washes over you and you have to rest far more?
5.Did you need a catheter?
6.Can you eat anything now or are you finding certain foods disagree?
I couldnt agree more about the GPs.Mine is awful she keeps repeating the mortality stats when I go in-I am seriously thinking of changing(after 25 years)as she is just not supporting me.
One last question-what did you tell your friends(I have told my 4 best friends and my sister who are all trustworthy)I dO NOT want to tell anyone else-just dont know what to tell boss etc(bad back?)
I would really appreciate your feedback, since you are so newly operated on-
Sue
