Question Went to support group today

Hello to you all,

I thought I would share my despair with you all and hope you can give me some help in dealing with the dissapointment.

I went today to a support group in the Uk and had set a goal of loosing 4stone for christmas. I had my band fitted on 25th August 2007 and have lost 52 lbs upto today.

I felt like I had failed today, and was also advised that I should stop eating mash pots and eggs and soft foods etc, I have been struggling with trying to eat chicken and more solid food for sometime. It has now been decided I have stayed on the post op diet to long and not making the correct use of my band adjustments.

Can anyone advise me please on what to try and how much we should be eating with 7ccs in my band.

I find the band fills very painful and am trying to cut my food down all the time so really I am hungry but afraid to eat to much incase I will have to have another adjustment to soon.

The other concern I have is the port.... It may have to be moved as it has tilted and because of this they will want to do it under local not general. I do not want to be awake and this is freaking me out with worry. Has anyone else had to have their PORT resited because of this problem. I have also been told that the more weight I loose the more difficult it is to find the port....

As you will read I am very unsettled with all that is happening let alone not reaching my target.

thanks for taking the time to read my post hope to get some replies and advice please.

I'm sorry... I had the Ry bypass surgery... I did hear that what you describe is a common problem. That's all I know.

Good morning!
You might want to repost this in the lap band forum thread. You would probably get responses then. I had RNY, so I cannot tell you anything about the bands. Sorry.

It makes sense, though, that you should switch to more proteins. Chicken, meat, fish, etc. That will stay in your pouch longer, make you feel full longer, and proteins are better for you that the carbs (mashed potatoes).

Finally... try not to worry about repositioning the port. I'm sure they have done this lots of times and won't put you through anything that you cannot tolerate. Usually the worry about those things is much worse than the actual event.

I'm sure you'll get responses to your band question if you repost in the lap band thread.

Best wishes!
-Mike-

Hey waterbottle, so sorry I haven't been around to support you lately - life has been pretty hectic - what with being sick, having a tooth pulled out and travelling around China.

I'm really sorry to her you're struggling. I really don't know much about the band and I think a lot of people here are in the same boat as they've had the bypass not the band which is probably why you haven't received many replies.

I think you're doing amazingly well with your weight loss - what other time in your life have you lost 52lbs in less than 4 months! Of course I understand what it is like to struggle - we've all been there - just with different operations.

I hope someone comes up with some good advice for you that has actually been through the lap-band procedure.

Keep your chin up girl!

Water bottle

I am sorry I didnt see this before, but life at this time of year is crazy here.

Anyways there are a few things I think you need to pat yourself on the back for. One you have lost over 50lbs in not even 4 months!!! That is awesome! For a band that is sooo good! I think someone may have your surgery confused with bypass. My Dr would be so happy with someone with those results. they expect 50 in 6-9m! You have not FAILED, not by a long shot!!! You have done so well, truely.

Band size is totally based on the each person so 7cc can be different between you and I. Some bands hold 4 cc total some are 10cc. My band is the smaller band holding 4cc. So that I cant answer for you.

As far as what you are eating, eggs are fine. I stay away from all white foods, like potato, bread, rice, ect. Not that everyone does, I just choose too. AS far as eating softer type foods, the reason I have heard they want you on more solid foods is because it doesnt run through your band it sticks around a bit. Soft foods can leave the tummy faster. The amounts I have been told is with a good fill you should be able to eat 1-1.5 cups of food. and it should last 3-4 hours with out you getting hungery. When was your last fill? Are you always hungery? If so it maybe time for a fill. if you eat good band foods, like protein, then fruits/veggies, then a carb to equal the 1 to 1.5 cups of food and you are either hungery or it doesnt stick around its time for a fill.

I am sorry you are having trouble with your port. That stinks. I havent had a problem (yet) with mine. Infact to me, my fills feel less painful now that there isnt as much "fluff" infront of it. I have had surgery before using local not general and it was ok. Most of the time they will give you something to relax you on top of the local so even though you are all the way out, you arent awake and talking to them...At least that was my experience.

Keep on going you are doing great!!!

Smile Thank you for that advice

My last band fill was 21st Nov 2007 I was offered another one before christmas but felt I cant really eat much now so wouldnt have it.

I will try to stay away from eggs I went out last week with my son and had an omlette and really enjoyed it and found out after it had 4 eggs in it and cheese OMG I was so scared I had overeaten yet had not felt it.

I will have to try more solid food from now on.

take care Dianne

HI Dianne... A woman in my support group has lost 175 pounds with the band... and NO FILLS! The trick is finding your "sweet spot" - where the restriction is just right --- and of course that varies from person to person. I think you're doing great --- keep up the terrific work!
