Default WAY off topic - Nail Polish

I am a nail-biter, but have started growing them. I am so excited that they are finally long enough to be painted without looking like stubby, colorful paws.

I don't know if I am putting the polish on too thick or what. Last night I put a coat of nail strengthener (sp) let it dry, 1 coat of polish let it dry for 45 mins, another coat of polish let it dry about an hour, then a coat of strengthener (sp) hoping it would work as a top coat.

It seems like no matter how long I let it dry, I have impressions from my sheets when I get up in the morning. And my polish always chips. I am not talking in like a week, I am talking about the next day. Last night when I looked at them in the shower they were chipped already just from washing my hair!!!!!!!! Is my polish too old (1 yr or so) it is too thick or what?!?!?

It's better to do thinner coats, letting it dry really well between.
There is a Sally Hansen product that will give you really strong nails, almost like an acrylic finish, but not so thick. two or 3 thin coats should do you. and don't do it before bed! that is a recipe for fabric imprinted nails

I use a sSally Hansen product called " Tough as Nails " and it really works... I apply it while I'm watching TV at night and it dries in time before bed.

I've also noticed that my nails are growing stronger lately... I wonder if it is has to do with better nutrition as a whole on my part... * shrugs *

I just took off my acrylics last night, they were driving me crazy...I am sitting here applying thin coats of Sally Hansen TripleStrong advanced gel nail fortifier...I think I have the other one too, they both work great. I agree, the better nutrition is giving us better nails...

The Sally Hansen stuff is really good as the very bottom coat if its like a clear coat. Then apply 2 layers of color (1 yr old is too old), and then a top coat. Try quality colors too like OPI (on the expensive side unless you find a color that becomes a staple for you), and the color will hold longer. And yes...chips happen more frequently when doing natural nails...my cousin does hers at least twice a week (I have had a crylic since I was 15...am pushing 100 now).

Oh...and nothing is to "off color" for this board

Year old polish is history. Always make sure to shake shake shake any polish like crazy before using, and paint really thin. When you paint too thick, the surface dries, but what's underneath doesn't...thus making the dreaded sheet marks.

Also, you can buy the spray on polish dryers that work OK...or even buy one of those battery operated fan nail polish dryers that work great. But the thing I find to be more important than anything else is that some colors dry better than others, even within the same brand....it's trial and error.

A base coat under the color will help the color cling better too. Ultimately, you should have 4 thin layers: 1 coat base, 2 coats color, 1 coat topcoat.
(I tell people I don't have children, I have nails instead!) My new fav color: St. Pertersburgundy by OPI
