Yeah night snacking has gotten me a little as of late too. I usually eat the 100 cals bags of popcorn, or a popcicle. I think I am going to cut them out or at least down. UGH.

Default pre-surgery lap band

i have found everyones postings to be so helpful. i'm trying to find out as much about lap band as i can. lots of info on the internet. i find personal postings to be the most helpful. people like me experiencing lifes ups and downs. info on post surgery diet has been enlightening. lots to learn about new eating habits. right now i eat anything and everything that comes to mind with no restrictions. how will i succeed with lap band. very nervous about my ability to curb my eating. i have many health problems and know the surgery and weight loss will improve my health. one thing i'm worried about is feeling more vulnerable when thin. my weight is kind of a protection or shield from the world. anyone ever feel like that?

i enjoy reading your posts. did you have lap band or gastric bypass? i'm beginning the process for lap band surgery and have sooo many questions.i'm sending in my paperwork on monday for phase one of qualifying. second packet has much more info in it. one question i have is will it be a problem for me to take my allergy and depression medication? one pill is a capsule and i've heard you can't take those. also, do you have to quit smoking?

HI and welcome!

Um lets see if I can answer some of your questions...

First I had the band. I was banded on 11-16-06. To date I have lost 104lbs.

Meds were a little rough for me in the beginning. I had to crush all mine. (heart meds) and they were well awful. Finally a chopped them and it was better. As far as I know you will have to change the capsule. (I dont know for sure, please ask your Dr.)

eating is different. I am satified with about 1 to 1.5 cups of food. I still enjoy food, but it isnt my focus anymore. If someone would have told me that this was really happen I would have told them they were crazy, last summer! Now I understand. The band will make you stop eating. Once you hit the full feeling, if you dont stop you will be in pain. It feels like a golf ball is trapped in there. Its a feeling you dont want to get, so you learn to "listen" to your body. Trust me!

Lets see smoking, yes everything I heard you have to quit. Some Drs even test right before surgery to make sure that you no longer smoking, if you did. Also I have been told it will slow healing time. I dont have actual experience, tho. Again consult your Dr.!!!

I felt back to normal after a few days. But I dont work outside the home. I stay home with my kids, so I could nap, or rest. I didnt have to be up and alert all day. I was walking the mall on Monday, Costco by tues. (my surgery was on Thursday). Does that mean you will feel the same, I dont know. Again I dont know if I could have gone to work all day so soon? I think most Drs like at least a week off, but I could be wrong....My friend who had RNY on the same day as I was feeling poorly for over a week, and needed a FULL 2 weeks before she could go back to work. Everyone is different. Have you had surgeries before...Maybe your healing time from that would help you find your answer there?

SO good luck! I cant wait to hear an update!

Default did you ever have any doubts before surgery

i feel like i'm suspended in animation. i had a full head of steam while researching lap band and talking to the weight management program to get the ball rolling and even securing financing........now i'm afraid to make a move forward........a lot of what i've read in this forum has been for gastric bypass......are their experiences the same as yours with lap band? i know there are differences in the surgery.....what about life afterwards.........what about diet.......i guess i'm getting a little scared........lots of what if's......what i do know is i have never been successful at losing the weight.... i keep thinking about how improved my health will be after surgery and weight loss..........i need some reassurance that others have gone before me and have had success and that their is someone out there that had some apprehension before surgery.....thanks, bits-and-bobs

i had the lap band and would do it again and would recommend it to any one, i am losing about one pound a week, but have not put very much effort in to it, i eat the same as before surgery just less and i get full, amazing, lap band is alot slower weight loss, but it works, and i feel great, good luck, it is a big decision. linda
