attention prude?
Well I am 5 weeks out and have lost approximately 40 lbs. I hate the attention though. I hate having people ask me how much I've lost what can I eat etc. I know they are just being "encouraging" and curious but somethings are private!!!! I don't ask if their monthly friend has shown up or if they have gained weight etc.
I've taken to just saying I don't keep track of my weight...I only weigh at the doctors office and that I am allowed as much healthy food as I can tolerate.

Hi. I like your reply. Actually, I hate the same questions myself like some people want a day to day "how much do you weigh now?" thing going.. I think I'll adopt your response if you don't mind haha. Seriously though, 40lbs in 5 weeks is AWESOME congratulations. It's been 4 weeks for me tomorrow and I've only lost 19 I am jealous! I am doing everything I am supposed to...oh well, I guess it really is individual but I am very happy for you!

Ya know...you could ask them the same back...like..."I donno' (while looking all innocent)...what do you weigh?" That should shut em' up. Like sharing of weight amounts is suddenly ok because we have had the surgery. It's not, it's rude, even if they don't realize they are being rude. Sometimes people just need a bit of a nudge to let em' know they are asking questions that are not appropriate. Silly People...

Wow...you're already annoyed and just 5 weeks out....you are gonna have fun as time goes on.
People are curious....even my PCP acts like I am medical curiosity...and that's the PCP.
People ask questions as your weight goes down and then when you hit goal they watch you like a hawk...to see if you fail....people are odd.
Even at 15 months out I had a Dentist apt last Wednesday....did we talk about my teeth...noooooo...all about WLS....I felt like "lets play 20 questions" with gauze hanging out of my mouth.
It does not end but seems like you have a quick witt.
Good Luck and great loss thus far

Honestly, I have not told many people. I keep my WLS on a need to know basis. If they ask how I lost the weight, I tell them I eat right and exercise, which is the truth. They don't need to know about my tool. I can usually gauge who will be supportive if I tell them, so when I do, I don't usually mind their 20 questions. I got a facial last night and I told my tech (since my skin was so bad) and her 18 yr old daughter is researching it. In those situations I don't mind. I don't offer advice, I only answer questions.

Yeah, I'm just starting to get this. I'm like Laura, I didn't even tell my family until 2 weeks after the date had been set. My office just knows I was out for surgery. They don't know what for. But I'm getting questions now. The funniest so far has been, "Ron, you are looking good. Is everything alright?" I'm the type of guy that prefers to blend into the background and not be the center of attention. Well, it seems the changes are making that less and less possible
Guess I'll have to get used to it or something.

I only told a select few and then the biggest B in the place asked me point blank if I had the surgery. I am not about lying, so I lifted my shirt and said yep. I dont mind the questions if they are sincerly curious...it's people who are just being nosey B's that get on my nerves. But the B told everyone who would listen that I had it. I dont care. I have not told one of my friends, she told me to just stop eating when I brought it up to her previously. She wonders why I dont drink anymore.

to tell or not to tell?
For this reason alone, that is why I chose not to tell co-workers, aquanitances etc...my work is so over involved with eachothers business and we all work very closely with one another that I didnt want it to be a big deal, so i told them i has gall bladder surgery and as far as the weight loss goes i just said i have been doing it the right way no carbs, fats and excercising alot which is all true..i never intended on lying i just didnt want to be attacked every day at work...so only my close friends and family know..

i only told my very close circle of friends and my immediate family, seriously at this stage everything is hightened including your intolerance to stupid or nosey questions.. look i know its annoying for people to keep asking questions espically when your trying to get your own head use to your new live but deep down its probably a way of them trying to support you!! i remember getting v pissed at my friends constantly asking about my weight but my mother made a very good point people presume because we have chosen to have this op that we are weight obsessed, simply they have us all wrong!!! so concentrate on yourself, be proud of how brave you are doing this and make up answers to make you laugh for their questions!!!!
by the way i was asked if my monthly friends came and i told them that my op meant i could not have babies naturally and please not ask me again, that got a look and em i've never been asked that again!!!! just shows you the ignorance

but with good points in it. When I had surgery I just said, "well, it is sort of personal, sort of gross, honestly..." and everyone nodded and said, "Yes - I understand..." and never said another word. I also had one man say, "Oh yea, my wife went through that." To this day I have no idea what he thought I was going through!
