I also chose not to tell anyone that isn't extremely intimately related to me... or anyone that I think would not be as supportive as I needed them to be, or would make fun. To this day I simply tell people I had some "digestive issues that needed to be fixed" and the weight loss is a great side effect.. it's sort of true. lol But since my surgery, I've moved across the country and nobody I know now knows what I looked like 9 months ago, so the point is somewhat mute.

I have told the people around me, but as far as dentist, hairdressers and such goes, i haven't told anyone. I don't think that everybody should now either. I can see the day come when i no longer think about the surgery, or my weight much, and then having to talk about it over and over again with people you meet, is just tiring. I say, i eat often, but small portions, and that i have stopped eating sweets, fatty stuff. And it's all true!

I told everyone - if I could have shouted it form the mountain tops I would have. Then I moved to NY where no one but family knew, and as peeps find out (like at work - I eat so little, that my boss asked why, and then was very supportive). But I did have an older and heavier gentleman find out (can't recall how), and he said, "so, you took the easy way out?" I looked at him and said, "Well, I may have taken what you think is the easy way out, but you must be an oddity, because not many overweight folks your age are even alive anymore." I walked away after that.....

WTG, Whitney! I love that response! I am the same way, though. I tell anybody and everybody that will listen, especially if it is someone that I think might be interested. I would shout it from the mountaintops if I could! I like to educate people about the surgery and I have never had a negative response. Most people are extremely supportive and curious, and I am more than willing to answer their questions. There are the ones who knows somebody that died or had severe complications or whatever, but if you dig deeper it is almost always more there. There were other pre-existing conditions that made the surgery more dangerous, and the person knew that going in. I LOVE telling people that I had surgery and probably always will!

I'm only 3 weeks out, but I find myself wanting to go up to "overweight" people and say, This will save your Life!!!! But, of course, I don't.
BTW, I always hated the term "overweight". I always wondered, Over WHOSE weight? Not over MINE. HaHaHa!!!!

I look at very heavy people... though i havent lost much... and i just feel bad for them. I know what they are going through.. I know how they feel... and i wish that they would help themselves as well. Especially the extremely overweight girls my age. It is tough being in your 20's, then you have friends getting married off, dating & starting your LIFE, throw in morbid obesity & its a LOT to handle.. i am glad i did this at 23. I want to be in my mid-20s going to school for what I want and happy with the way i look. I'm getting more male attention now, and I sit and think.. wow you wouldnt look at me 48lbs ago, why now?

I tell everyone. I've learned that the people who speak negatively about this, have their own insecurities and they feed off your response. Except for the people I work with, most people are veryyyy positive.

I keep thinking this as well. I've had men that knew me before, come up to me and say, you look so pretty now, and they keep giving me all this attention. Of course i'm flattered, but these guys never looked at me twice before, and all of a sudden they keep calling me. Sometimes i feel a bit lost at this, because i'm not used to getting all this attention. And not only because of my weight, but my husband left me 10 months ago, and we had been together for 10 years, and then it's difficult to just throw yourself into it again.
