Psychiatric Evaluation
As you can see I have a lot of my labs and doctor visits out of the way. I wasn't worried or even concerned with the results of any of them. Although I was relived that they came back within "normal" ranges, I am most nervous about the Psychiatric Evaluation. I have my appointment on Wednesday. With most doctor appointments and labs you know what obstacles are ahead. Sometimes it's getting stuck with a needle for blood work; other times it's laying on a cold table with your legs spread for a stranger and his/her nurse or assistant and a cold scapula. While most of the visits to a doctor office are pretty routine, there are a few that are unpleasant. But at least you know what to expect and what you're getting into before you walk in the office.
Can anyone tell me what to expect in this appointment to come? I hate not knowing what I'm getting myself into. I'm such a control freak and this is driving me crazy.

Jenn join the team. I am a control freak as well at times(did I admit to that??) and the a couple of days before my psych-eval I just could not get it together. I was freaking out. Honestly Jenn every psychologist is different. I filled out a lot of paperwork and then sat down and had a comfortable conversation with my pyschologist. The thing to remember is you gave it your best and if you don't like the way it turned out or it seems like the psychologist is going to give you the run around seek a second opinion. I hope all goes well Jenn.

I had to answer a questionairre about me. Then I met with her, and we had a comfortable talk. Then she gave me 2 tests, and I was done. One test was 25 questions, and the other was 250 questions

My psych eval
She sent me a few pages of questions that I answered, mostly about general health and binge eating. She wanted to be sure I didn't have an eating disorder, untreated depression or anything like that. She also put in the report that I seemed to be open to the idea of seeking additional therapy if I got freaked out after surgery.
They want to be sure you'll be able to cope with your new life - they aren't after you or playing, "Gotcha".
If you are well informed, know the limits of the surgery and are ready for a major lifestly change, you'll be fine.

250 questions? I think I would have needed to follow up with my therapist after that! None of my finals were even that long. Did you get college credit for that?
Honestly though, I wouldn't worry. I've got a whole slew of psychiatric "issues" on my plate and my shrink actually thinks the gastric bypass will help resolve some of them. It's okay if you've got issues, they just want to make sure there aren't any psyche issues that haven't been addressed.
Best of luck!

Persistence works!
I am so glad you are getting all of your doctor appts, test, etc. done. It is a whirlwind, I know. My husband did all of those in a matter of two months. I was very persistent. It is good that you are on the cancellation lists. We were too, for doctors who were booked three or four months out. I just refused to take no for a answer. I would call them at least once a week. It turns out if you bug them a little bit, in a cheery, non-frustrated way, and explain why it is so urgent to get in sooner, they will sometimes make an exception. Good luck with all of that. Can't wait to know when your surgery date is. We are all pulling for you! -Kath

Well that was harmless. I was in and out within 20 minutes, and most of that was spent filling out new patient paperwork. She asked me a total of 10 questions and sent me on my way. She even managed to give me her opinion of me "not looking like the type that would need such a surgery". I just grit my teeth and said thank you politely. Oh well, I'm one step closer.

You are on the smaller side like I told you before. You are going to hear that A LOT. Most of the people who have WLS have a lot more to lose. You are on the borderline of getting it. You will probably hit your goal in 9 months with the weight you have to lose. Most people it takes a year or more because they are closer the the required amount to lose. You carry your weight well and don't look like you need WLS at all, but you have to do what is right for you......I guess you can smile and say that when you get those comments.
