Unhappy Where O Where Can I Find A Referring Doctor

I have been trying to get a referral for bariatric surgery with out getting scolded for over 5 years when I was heathy just extremely heavy. Now that I am diebetic and high blood presure I continue to find a doctor that will refer me....

After mayny disappointments out of the blue last December my very own doctor said I want to refer you to a bariatric doctor.........December 31 my heart stopped again when my insurance got changed at work...ughhhhhhhhh

New Insurance , new ANTI bariatric doctor .............

Well, I am moving to carlsbad July 1 and wondering if you would happen to know of a Bariatric Cigna Friendly Family doctor that may refer me to a Bariatric Surgeon.

Phone Cigna and request:
1. their bariatric criteria; and
2. a list of aproved bariatric surgeons.

Then, phone the surgeons and ask:
1. are you board certified? (Don't accept a surgeon who isn't board certified.)
2. what types of bariatric surgery do you perform?
3. how long have you been doing this type of surgery?
4. can you give me a list of PCPs in your area who make referrals to you?

After that, phone your state medical board and find out if there are any complaints against any of the surgeons and PCPs you are considering.

Do some research on the type of surgery you think would be best for you. There are several types and this board is a good place to learn about them.

Last, choose your PCP and surgeon.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Default PCP help....

Dixie.

Thank you for all the information. I have done research for the past 5 years. My problem is finding a PCP that will refer me. I get scolded evertime I ask. I am clearly a candidate the PCP are all ANTI surgery . Believe me I have asked.

I need suggestions on a pcp in North County San Diego that will at least be open minded to referring me to a Surgeon.[/u]Any suggestions?

Thanks

I think that Dixie gave great advice on how to find a PCP, you'll just have to work backwards a bit.

Once you receive the list of approved Bariatric Surgeons, just as she said-- give them a call and ask them which PCP WILL recommed you for the surgery.

Good Luck!
