My EOB was almost $89,000.00. I was in the hospital for 5 days and had mine open and had my gallbladder out. I paid $250.00 for the hospital admit, and about $170.00 out of pocket for drugs (at home Lovonox self injectibles). Thank God for insurance!!!

Sheesh, I guess mine was cheap! My hospital bill was around $17,000 if I remember right. I'm sure part of the reason it was cheaper is that my Doctor usually only keeps his lap rny patients over night. The Dr bill was something like $3,000 and I had to pay $1,000 of that plus $300 for the bariatric product he uses and $80 for the pre-op appointments with the Behaviorist, Internist and Surgeon. I pay nothing for the post-op visits which really blows me away. I don't even pay a co-pay! He sees us at 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and YEARLY from one year on out. My insurance paid all of the hospital bill, thank goodness! I have Priority Health for insurance.

Hmmmmm, I never saw a bill. I only paid co-pays along the way and some $250 program fee.

My total was $37,000... I didn't pay one cent... I had Blue Cross of Arkansas at that time.

Wow! For those out there that have to pay cash, it is far less expensive here in Louisiana. The cash price at both facilities, including the surgeon is $18,900 and $18,400. This also included a year of follow ups.

Cash is always less. With insurance, the vendor has to bill higher as the insurance pays a percentage of he contract rate. A visit costs $100. The contract may say insurance with pay 80% of the contracted rate. To get the full $100, the vendor charges a $125 contract rate to get the actual cost of service of $100. Confsusing, huh?
The hospital billed fo $54K for my 3 day stay, one day in ICU, with a laproscopic procedure. I had zero hospital co-pay...just the $10 co-pay for MD visits. I had Blue Cross HMO with Sharp Medical Group.
