Thanks, I didn't know it was that old, I really should start paying attention to those things. The kidney stone medicine has me in a complete fog!! Good think I take the bus to work and the people at work are nice and just laugh at me.

Jennifer, the type of Diabetes that your sister has is Type I. The cause of it is totally different than someone who develops Type II, as an adult. The reason you will often see Type II Diabetes go away after wls is because the fat molecules in our bodies cause us to be resistant to insulin. So, it is more of a resistance issue. The pancreas is making insulin like it should but the insulin isn't doing the job it should because of the resistance. You start losing weight and you will see a dramatic change in your Type II Diabetes since you are decreasing your resistance as you lose the weight. Make sense? One thing people do need to be aware of, though, is that if you have had Type II Diabetes in the past you are more prone to develop it again if you put on weight or if your body is under stress. So, keeping an eye on your blood sugars is always a good idea.

Sorry , didnt mean to sound like I was offended, just putting my feelings out there. I know there is a difference in Juvenile Diabetes and Type II, for us with the adult onset we are luckily able to be reversed with the loss of weight and diet change. My apologies to you.

Oh, Starla, you don't have to be sorry, I was more worried that I offeneded you! I know there is a difference, type I an type II, and I understand all the complex issues that come with them. I grew up in a house full of diabetics. It's not just on this board, I heard a TV News show a while back talking about this 'cure' for diabetes. I just get so worried about it. Some (and I mean this with love, not the way it's going to sound) nice young mother, who has never been sick and doesn't understand diabetes, who was just told her young child has it, well she is going to hear nothing of the story, or read nothing of the story other than "Cure for diabetes".
I will be the first to admit, how many times did I see "Loose weight fast, no dieting" and but that pill or try this 'miracle' cure. Some of my feelings may be because of my sister, or my grandparents (yes all of them) or my dad, but diabetes just 'gets me' and I worry. I know I'm being silly. But I know I would fall for anything that said "Loose Weight" and I think to think I'm smart enough not to do that, but I did, because I was desperate and took anything like that for fact.
Does that make sence to anyone?

Jennifer, I know exactly where you are coming from and I understand your concern. Personally my pcp doesn't look at me as being "cured" from my Diabetes, he feels that it is "diet controlled". I personally like the way he looks at it. Because of the fact that he still sees me as "Diabetic" he is checking my A1C every 4-6 months and giving me his full "Diabetic" check-up. I don't like to assume that just because my Diabetes seems to be gone that it can't come back if I put on weight or my body is under severe stress. So, because he still treats me as a Diabetic it keeps me accountable to him and to myself to do all I can to not have it redevelop. You know it is just like a woman who gets gestational diabetes. After she has the baby all signs of Diabetes are gone but she always needs to be aware that she is a person who is more prone to developing Diabetes.
Just my take on all of this.
