Damn, shocked by addiction!
OMG.........I went through all my stuff today......bags and bins of things I was "storing" for Spring and Summer. The amount of clothing, particularly shirts that I have bought since surgery is actually staggering! I am not exxagerating to say I could go from now until Fall and never wear a shirt twice. I guess I called it reward, cause we know food is not a good one. I love shopping and I DO seriously get great deals.....but this is actually kind of nauseating. The only good things that made me feel slightly better were that I can wear the shirts and tanks year round since I pair them with sweaters or jackets in other seasons, the fact that I am close enough to goal that many of the shirts should fit until they die, and the fact that I didn't do quite as bad about shorts and capris, which are VERY seasonal here in Ohio and more vulnerable to size changes. I guess what I thought was a distraction had run straight into addiction. Definitely a wake up call to find better outlets (NO, not THOSE kinds of outlets.....with Nautica, Gap, Old Navy....mmmmm) and rewards now. My head is hung in shame and my closet is STUFFED!

Judging by some of the comments made by some of the women in my surgeon's support group it would seem this is something of a common occurence. I guess in seeking to fulfil something missing with food previously, it is easy to fall into trading one addiction for another. And lets face it, after a lifetime of having to wear some of the larger clothing on offer, it would be natural for shopping for great clothing to be the one.
On a wittier note: When discussing the subject in group last time, one woman said, "well at least shopping, unlike overeating, won't kill you." To which the woman talking about it replied, "Don't be too sure about that, my husband hasn't seen the credit card bill yet!!"

Well as far as addictions go I guess you could do a lot worse . Me on the other hand I literally wait till the pants are falling off and my husband flags me to actually go out and buy something .My new maternity pants are littlerally hanging on me but I only have 2 weeks to go so I refuse to buy anything lol. I have NO idea what I am going to wear after the baby comes

Marty I started slipping into that habit about 4 months post-op. I mean I have jeans in my closet I still to this day have not worn. Like Whitney said, it cuts down on how often you have to wash(that is a great excuse). Maybe you could collect things like candles or pens.

Oh my......I already own too much of those things too......and bath products on top of that! I guess I was quite a shopper prior to surgery, it just wasn't as fun as it is now....and exciting. I would like to trade it out for exercise and getting my house organized.....which I was actually doing today when I came upon my gruesome discovery of clothes. I swear, some of these clothes I don't remember buying. lol

Dale and Whitney......I agree and have done that, but being a single parent household that's a tough one to let run much behind. I'd have to use them like disposable clothes! lol Wear them once, Goodwill them, move along to the next. I did go through and put some of the smallest stuff away with tags on. They'll still fit me at goal as they are still a little tight. At least that way I'll feel excited when I find them next time.

Your so cute Marty! I have an INSANE wardrobe, always have... even when I was in 24's my closet was crmmed with clothing.... I love them!!! But what I love more, is getting the deal! The great buy! I think that is my addiction now. Bargain binning it. Anyoone who knows me, is aware of my thrilland excitement of thrift store shopping! I got VERY excited when I can buy a $100 suit for $5... woo hoo! Out here in San Diego we have, "Everything $5 Stores!" Oh man... Im in uphoria when I step through those doors! lol
Clothes......... YIPEE! Have ya noticed, the smaller the clothes the cheaper the price? When I was fat, I NEVER got a $5 shirt!!!! lol
I adore you Marty! Make room for me, Im coming to Ohio then to Florida to see Van.... shoot where does Amber live...I HAVE to go see Amber too!
