Default Question about blood work

I was wondering, reading Julies post about tests she is having done, if I will have to wait another year to have a PAP since I had my yearly PAP only about 2 months ago? Does that sound like something the insurance company would do? If it does, could I pay out of pocket at a clinic or something? I have already had my gall bladder removed, ithat is not a problem is it? If my referral goes through (I should know next week) can I do the Psych eval after my first apt anytime or is there a specific timeline? I know I should just wait and ask the Dr but I am so anxious LOL

I wanted to let you know all your new pictures are so inspiring. I was wondering if people (not other WLS patients) forget to tell you to keep up the good work as if the surgery does the work, not you.......anyhooooo..............KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

As long as your pap is withina year you are good to go. You wont have to repeat it, so dont worry about that. psych eval should take place after our first consut witl Kelly, unless you want to make an appointment for "food issues" and you can already get the ball rolling... it never hurts to talk to someone about those issues, because they dont go away after surgery. You definitley have to stay focused and keep working at it. Good luck sugar pea!

I did my psych eval before I had my first appointment. I figured if the insurance had given me approval for the consult, and they were going to want the eval, then what the heck. It was actually there before my first appt! Good luck!

I was already seeing a psychologist long before I was approved, and I continue to see her now. It really helped since she wrote a nice letter saying that my depression was caused by obesity, not depression causing obesity. I searched my insurance's website for local psychologists and choose a few just by their names. Then I researched them on the net and settled on one. I have a decent mental health policy that allows for 30 sessions a year with only a $10 co-pay which is then covered by my FSA. Your PAP/ well woman exam is good for a year. Mine was done in Dec '03. As for having your gallbladder already removed, you don't have to worry about getting a gallbladder ultrasound. The scarring from that shouldn't interfere with the bypass procedure. People who know me know that I'm also working hard, they see it every day as I weigh my food choices and get extra activity in. They also see that my skin is still rather firm, which comes from keeping up with the exercises. I'm not afraid to wear sleeveless anymore! A little flappy, but not wrinkly.

Everyone is on the money with the responses. Having your gallbladder removed is not means for not being approved for surgery.. it is perfectly ok. There are some that had it done before, some had it removed during GBS, and some like me that still have it.

Your pap is good for 1 year.. and you will need an EKG (recent I think within 6 months of surgery as well) and lab work done including an HIV test.

Good luck to you.. you're well on your way..

Hi, I am new here and I am glad to hear that if you have had depression before that it won't possibly effect having the surgery. I have had my gallblader already removed and I had cancer before and had to have a hystorectomy. Does anyone know if this would be a problem?
