OT: Music
So lately I've ventured into different music that I normally wouldn't have liked before. After working on motion graphics for their upcoming movie, I've REALLY started to like System of a Down a lot.
Anyone have any cool music that they are into, I need new stuff and am open to anything! All I usually listen to currently is Reggaeton, which is a Spanish/Reggae style (Arists: Daddy Yankee, Don Omar).

I've started to mellow out now so I'm listening to more of the Neo Soul sound. Van Hunt, Maxwell, Amel Larrieux, Leela James, Anthony Hamiliton, Musiq & John Legend...just to name a few.

Well, there is always the reliable stand by the Dave Matthews Band (i suggest the cds crash and everyday). I also started listening to The Killers which is pretty good also check out the White Stripes. I pretty much listen to everything but country. Anyway, these are the cds I currently have in my Jeep.

Stuff I've been listening to lately:
The Mammals - Departure
The Mammals are a "progressive bluegrass"/newgrass band, but Departure (aptly titled) is more accessible to a mainstream audience. There is still a prominant use of bluegrass instruments (fiddle, banjo, upright bass, etc.), but their new album is nowhere near as foot-stomping or hoe-downish as their typical sound. The band even refers to Departure as their "indie rock" album.
Andrew Bird - Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs
And INCREDIBLE talent. His music is very intricate, but also a blast to listen to. He has an amazing voice, plays violin and whistles - like his namesake.
Jake Shimabukuro - Dragon
World-renowned ukulele player. Yes, ukulele, but it's really great music. At times, he plays so fast and so crisp, that you forget that it's a ukulele - it sounds more like an acoustic guitar. It's what I'd consider a perfect Saturday or Sunday morning CD.
Damien Rice - O
If you've seen the movie Closer, then you've heard Damien Rice. If you haven't hear his album, O, it is a MUST HAVE in anyone's collection.
David Byrne - Grown Backwards
Ex-Talking Heads frontman. This is his most complete album, in my opinion. He touches upon all sorts of music - rock, trance, even opera. You can't go wrong with any DB album, but this would be the first one I'd recommend.
Michael Franti & Spearhead - Everyone Deserves Music
A mix of rock and hip-hop. He's is best experienced live, but this is a great introduction to his music. He has a lot of positivity in his music. One of the last hip hop artists who doesn't rap about "bitches" and "money". His stuff is also very politcal... so if you support Bush or the war, you might want to avoid this one.
Beulah - The Coast Is Never Clear
A band that unfortunately broke up. Their sound is a mix between Simon & Garfunkel and The Beach Boys. Perfect summertime album. Very catchy and fun.
Ray Lamontagne - Trouble
If you watched American Idol last week, you saw the gray-haired guy do his rendition of the title track from this album. But check out this album. Ray has an incredible voice.
Robert Randolph & the Family Band - Unclassified
Gospel, soul, blues, R&B, and rock all fronted by RR on the pedal steel guitar. Awesome music!
I better stop there, because I could go on forever.
And I will have to politely disagree with April on the Dave Matthews Band recommendations. Crash (for its poor production values) and Everyday (because of its horrible songwritng) are the band's worst albums. I'd recommend Under the Table and Dreaming and/or Before These Crowded Streets.

I politely respect your opinion as I am not a music producer nor am I a critic, just a fan. I chose those cds because my favorite songs are on them "Angel", "#41 "and "Say Goodbye". I did also forget to mention that anything by Soul Coughing or Mike Doughty is well worth checking out. Also don't forget Morphine.

System of a Down..hmm...if you like them you might like: Linkin Park, Slipnot, and Disturbed. These are a few of my favorites lately. (Had to be different!)

Okay, I guess I'm old.......
I listen to a guy named Michael Buble - he's in his early 30's, and sings standards (ala Sinatra). He takes songs and puts his smooth, jazzy spin on them.

Just picked up his latest...
Real good if you like Fusion Jazz. Some songs remind me of the old Steely Dan!
